Noteworthy "off-court" incentive to NBA teams (probably in the late-lottery at this point) considering Fredette...

If you notice the tournament is the draw

not Fredette himself. Ya he has some fans, but all the hype around him made people curious. In the NBA its all about winning. He isn’t gonna draw a crowd of Mormons like Yao does China or Omri does the chosen people.

The tourney is only a draw to a point

The BYU vs. Florida game was the 4th most watched game of the tournament behind only the National Championship, and two Final Four games. No offense, but they weren’t tuning in to see Chandler Parsons. And it wasn’t even the Elite 8. And, I believe, it was competing with American Idol, The Office and Grey’s Anatomy on the East Coast. How is Omri’s following any different than Jimmer’s? The world’s Jewish population is roughly 13 million. The world’s LDS population is over 14 million. And both religions have about the same amount of members in the United States.

I thought this was interesting simply because Fredette has a built-in fan-base in America prior to the draft that might be unprecedented. It’s not just the Mormon faith. It’s the name. It’s the skills and the entertaining way in which he scores. And, obviously, it’s the all the time ESPN put into it due in part to the network’s contract with the university. Whatever the reason though, this kid has NBA marketing personnel salivating…

At the end of the day...

…Jimmer’s a fun player to watch play. He’s not just a scorer, but an uber talented shooter/scorer kid who enjoys the game. There is something to be said for that.

In otherwords..

..basketball fans love Jimmer too. It’s not just the LDS community or whomever.

Jimmer impressed me.

Even though he may end up a rotation player in the NBA (which is what I think he’ll end up being), I think he will embrace that. Jimmer Fredette is a smart kid (or it seems that way to me).

He can shoot the living hell out of the ball

I think he’s going to be in the league for a long time at the very least
