Free Agency!

Its about that time.

Star-divide

Free agency is mediocre at best this year. The best we can hope for is Sacramento kings re-signing Marcus and Samuel.  This free agent class has some pretty decent talent that could get Sacramento over the hump, seeing that we need veteran leadership the most. And this free agency has no lack of that.  While Carmelo is out of the question because his new contract with NY we do have some players that should be a question of interest. some names that come to mind are players like Micheal Redd who played for the U.S. team and helped win a gold medal for us, Jamal Crawford, Kenyon Martin, Tyson Chandler, good ol' Peja, T.J. Ford, Aaron Brooks, or Grant Hill. All of these players could help contribute with the leadership. There are more i just cant think of anymore. Once we get help with leadership the kings will climb the ladder back to relevance because they have the talent, they just need the camaraderie to help them become better.

I'd really like to target Tyson Chandler

I’m impressed with his improved FT%, I think he’s a better man-defender than Daly, he’s younger, and I like his ability to play AT THE BASKET in the form of dunks, put backs and alley-oop conversions. I think he’d be an ideal fit for our team moving forward as he is at that age where he can grow with our guys if we were to offer a 5 year 60 million dollar deal his way.

No chance he leaves Dallas.

Tyson has brought a whole new mindset and attitude to the Mavs. He’s exceptionally popular down there, with the team, management and the fans—and the feelings are reciprocated. They will find a way to re-sign him, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was even willing to take a paycut to make it work.

I'm not sure how our bad at business still-millionaire owners are going to trump Dallas' great at business still-billionaire, but I like your optimism.

he is definitly someone i would like see in a kings uniform.

In all likely hood the kings probably wont spit out that kind of money for a B list player at best but i wouldnt mind seeing him come to sac. We the fans have always wanted Tyson ever since his name was put on the block a couple of years back. If we do let go dalembert i think we should definitly persue tyson because we need to stay big on that end of the court. We have a pretty good team when it comes to size tyreke is 6’6 and marcus is 6’4, and all the other contending teams are about the same size. There are 2 areas of need for the kings in my opinion and that is leadership and size.

by Joshhalvorson on May 9, 2011 12:30 PM PDT reply actions

if they could get Peja pretty cheap he would be a nice option off the bench

Plus it would be nice to have one of our guys back, just imagine him comin off the bench strectching the floor knockin down Serbian lay ups! That would be awesome.I think stay the course re sign our starters.I doubt Dall lets Chandler slip away from them.He is also injury prone a bit he is only 1 yr younger than DalemberT.
One thing about Dalembert is he is a iron man.I do like Chandler I just don’t think it’s worth the risk of him getting injuries and missing huge chunks of the season like he has done in the past.

is it just me . . .

Or is marcus Thorton just a younger version of Jamal Crawford? I used to want Crawford, but now I don’t think we need him anymore?

by gregsactly on May 9, 2011 1:02 PM PDT reply actions

I think Thornton's

a bit more well-rounded in his overall game than Crawford. He’s decent at D and Crawford is just atrocious on that end of the ball.

by Smills9133 on May 9, 2011 2:08 PM PDT up reply actions

that would be fun to watch and tyson is injury prone but when he is in he is goes all out same with kenyon martin he’s another tough guy but his downside are a concern.

If we're going to spend our cap space on a FA who's going to supply veteran leadership, then he needs to start.

Chandler had no offense in NO without CP3 and he’d have no offense in Dallas without Kid. I think JT and Sam showed more ability to create last season than Chandler did in his whole career.

Stat wise their’s very little difference we between Sam and Tyson comparing career numbers. But, Sam wanted to be here and he’s a better match with DeMarcus than Chandler. Neither is going to be around long enough to take us to the Finals, and I believe Sam will be a little easier on the pocketbook.

Yeah I guess it's only a year and half difference in age between Chandler and Sam

And Sam’s been much healthier throughout his career. I thought Tysonwas 2-3 years younger initially.

by Smills9133 on May 9, 2011 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Honestly i think samuel will stick it out with the kings for the rest of his career he seems really content on staying in sacramento. Tyson was a option if sam leaves but i honestly dont think that will happen……….we are in need of a SF someone like a andre igoudala or a granger. I wish we had this cap space for next year because thats when the big names are coming out like dwight howard and cp3

by Joshhalvorson on May 9, 2011 2:15 PM PDT reply actions

If your logic for Samuel sticking with the Kings for the rest of his career is because he seems content in Sac … don’t you think the fact the Kings are kind of up in the air might be a problem?

personally i see the kings staying because there are too many big business men such as the NBA commisioner, involved in this for the kings not to get a new arena………Have you ever heard or seen david stern put this much effort and use as much pull as he did to keep the kings in sacramento just to see it fail? i know i havent. And him being content isnt the only reason for him staying, i see him staying because there is more chemistry and heart in this team for him to want to leave. He will get a pretty decent contract from the organization and he will stay. i was skeptic for awhile as well but when i looked at what the NBA is doing and what the Mayor is doing, and what Chris webber is saying it was too hard to ignore the facts that the arena might just get done. Private funding is what i think will have the most play in a new arena, and i do believe there will be a small amount of public funding involved.

You do realize that Stern and the Commissioner’s Office came to Sacramento in the December of 2006 to try and get an arena done. In fact, they were here for almost four years working on the Convergence plan which failed in September of 2010 with Joan Moag of the Commissioner’s office wrote the following letter:

“On the heels of the disappointing — but not surprising — action (or inaction) of the state and Cal Expo board, it is fair to say that the NBA has ceased its activities on the Sacramento arena front. However, we will continue to monitor and respond to the activities and options of others that might reasonably ensure the competitiveness and viability of the Kings’ franchise.”

So yeah actually we have seen them involved with the Kings and not get an arena.

Now as for my comment though, it doesn’t really matter what you or I think but what Sammy thinks in relation to the Kings staying in Sac so I wouldn’t just attach your personal exuberance to him. However, that apparantly isn’t exactly what you meant

And him being content isnt the only reason for him staying, i see him staying because there is more chemistry and heart in this team for him to want to leave.

But I have to ask: you really think he can’t find chemistry on another team that possibly won more than 25 games this past year? You really think the Kings had that much chemistry and heart that he is staying here nomatter what?

What? Sideline? You do realize he had people here working directly with state officials and the commissioner’s office gave a presentation here and openly backed the Convergence Plan here and were involved waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the city looked at it right?

What did I not take into consideration? If this is in regards to Dalembert, relax. I was just asking a question that seemed pretty darn fair to ask. There is no right answer anyway, just wondering if you thought everything through with the whole “content in Sacramento” and “chemistory and heart” thing. These conversations are back and forths.

no not at all i think its fun to debate but when you ignore my whole post except one part in my eyes it shows ignorance. Im not one to complain because you do have valid points i just dont see how you can question one thing when thats not the only thing that im saying to back up my theory…………..not of this is concrete yet its a matter of opinion but it seems odd for you to go onto two seperate posts and try and disect on part with opinion…………….yes david was out here but he never fully invested himself…….i watched a lot of what was happening in the earlier 2000’s and david stern never really put that much of an effort because he didnt think that it would happened……..thats why he pulled out a year or 2 ago before it became a heated discussion. He never was public about his involvment and stayed in the back ground. Now he is in the front of the media and is acknowledging his involvment. Theres that Chris Webber’s involvment, and the mayor actually making this a priority. All of the past mayors did nothing to help get a new arena…. they didnt care to push it through and get it approved……………If you want to debate then debate it all not just one word or sentence, or at the least bring some facts everything im saying youve already seen or heard. and if you want factual evidence i will find it and send it to you.

It’s three dots if you’re leaving out words in a sentence. It’s four if you’re leaving out an entire sentence or more.

Look

I bring up the part’s of people’s posts I am commenting on. I dunno what to tell you: you want me to praise you for the other stuff I wasn’t asking you about? I wasn’t trying to trip you up or spin your words, I was honestly trying to ask you about specific things you wrote that I did not really understand, that’s it. So unless you want me to give you false praise for things I did not care to address then I dunno what to say. So yeah, yeah Webber?

yes david was out here but he never fully invested himself…….i watched a lot of what was happening in the earlier 2000’s and david stern never really put that much of an effort because he didnt think that it would happened……..thats why he pulled out a year or 2 ago before it became a heated discussion. He never was public about his involvment and stayed in the back ground.

Just letting you know in case you were unaware, after Measures Q & R were defeated on November 7, 2006, Stern announced in a press conference in public that he was flying to Sacramento in December and the commissioner’s office was going to take control of the arena issue for the Maloofs. In October of 2007, Cal Expo voted to openly negotiate with the NBA through the commissioner’s office on building a new arena on the state fairgrounds with the idea to lease some of the state owned Cal Expo 360 acres of land to a developer for buiding stores, offices, and homes. According to the Sacramento Bee, “NBA and Cal Expo offciials hope such a development could produce enough money to both fund an arena as well as refurbish the fairgrounds.” (Notice, we aren’t talking about Cal Expo and the Kings negotating but the NBA through Stern’s office). The Sacramento Bee even reported on the negotations when they extended into March of 2008 with little progress. Voison even did an interview with Stern talking about it. Then in February of 2009 Moag of the Commissioner’s office presented a mixed-use project anchored by an arena at Cal Expo which inlcuded a 350 acre “living village” with a new indoor fair space, and retail, office, and residential buildings, and a $1.9 biilion price tag.

This was all going on well before Kevin Johnson started his task force in the Fall of 2009 and without direct communications between Cal Expo and the Maloofs. Anyway, the project lagged because of the sheer cost of the whole thing and the already very much slumping real estate market. The NBA tried to negotiate other ideas. Obviously when the task force was convened in the late Fall and was then finished in December of 2009, one of the proposals was from Gerry Kamilos, along with developer David Taylor, who called for a complicated land-swap deal that woudl build an arena on city-controlled land at the downtown railyards, transfer the Arco Arena site and adjacent property to the state for a new state fairgrounds, and sell Cal Expo. Surprise surprise the NBA publicaly declared this project (there were seven of them) their favorite because they were the ones pulling it together for a few years at that point. To nobody’s surprise in March KJs’ task force officially endorsed the NBA approved Convergence Plan and by September of 2010 it fell apart.

So is that enough evidence in regards to Stern and the Commissioner’s Office for you?
