Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Sources say that the Charlotte Bobcats (9), Milwaukee Bucks (10) and Golden State Warriors (11) are also open to moving their pick. In this case the interest is all pretty specific. The Knicks, and a handful of other teams, are trying to get ahead of the Jazz. The target? BYU's Jimmer Fredette.

Up or Down

There is zero chance utah takes Jimmer 3rd overall, correct?
Or does this say they are interested in moving down to just below Utah?

by gregsactly on Jun 20, 2011 9:18 AM PDT reply actions

Utah also has the 12th pick

That’s the spot they are most likely talking about.

Yep

i’m starting to get on the Klay Thompson train. I like what Fredette brings, but Thompson has good size, a good shot and may be able to develop into a more rounded mullti-dimentional NBA player. He also seems less ball dominate and with Reke, Cousins, and Thornton, that may be a good fit for our squad. in the end in GP we trust..

by gaindeyouth on Jun 20, 2011 9:34 AM PDT reply actions

I can understand the rationale

Same great shooting and less play-making than Jimmer, but in a 6’6’’ body.

Add me into this group who has interest.

Esp if we can trade the 7 for a 10-12.

From Hoopsworld
The Sacramento Kings are split on whether or not they should draft Jimmer Fredette with the seventh overall pick. Ownership wants the team to select Fredette because they feel he’s the big name who can generate interest and sell tickets, which is crucial for Sacramento at this point. However, the Kings’ coaching staff doesn’t feel that Fredette is the answer and have even made their case against drafting Fredette by breaking down his game film and presenting evidence to show why his transition to the NBA is expected to be a difficult one. At the end of the day, it sounds like the coaches will win out in Sacramento, which means the Kings will likely draft a small forward on Thursday.

Hoopsworld

My bet is that this is about the same level of conjecture that any of us have in the threads each day. That is, I doubt that this paragraph is the result of any conversation that anyone from Hoopsworld had with anyone from the Kings organization.

For all the confident talk by his agent, it appears Enes Kanter is slowly dropping out of the top five of NBA draft. Poor workouts maybe?

ah man, Kanter would be a score at 7

He’s the 2nd player I’d take behind Derrick Williams.

by mavisdory on Jun 20, 2011 10:59 AM PDT up reply actions

based on his game

he’s big, strong and polished… and young… he’s a very good rebounder, he has a bunch of offensive moves, he’s skilled in the paint, can shoot consistently, is a true center… he also facilitates nicely but has a scoring mentality… Kanter has the potential to be an all-star center, I don’t know what else you need from a prospect… especially in this draft… if it weren’t for his knee I don’t know why he wouldn’t be the 1st pick actually…

by mavisdory on Jun 20, 2011 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Would be a nice cover pick

in case Sammy didn’t resign, or we had to do a S&T with Sammy.

i wouldn't mind trading the pick for indiana's pick

pick up tyler honeycutt and sign tayshaun prince from FA. i think our team will be pretty solid with that

I'm not feeling Prince after what went down In Detroit last season.

But maybe it was just an isolated thing- he hasn’t had to many problem in his career.

But what would we get back?

Indiana is not trading Granger, Hibbert, George or Collison to move up ~8 spots.

who does larry bird like more marshon brooks or jimmer fredette ? i know that larry bird likes both. if he likes jimmer more he would like our 7th pick. but i know he really liked Marshon brooks with their # 15 pick. alot.

by Beer_man on Jun 20, 2011 10:20 AM PDT reply actions

If the Knicks trade up to 9th

It virtually guarantees we draft Fredette at 7. Ugh.

If everyone thinks the Jazz will draft Knight at 3

Then why do they think the Jazz would draft Jimmer at 12? Wouldn’t the Jazz want someone like Burks, Thompson or Selby at 12 to add a little more size to their backcourt?

And is it really clear that Knight will be a better pro than Jimmer? If the Jazz really wanted Jimmer they could take him at 3 and still get another solid guard at 12.

by amack10 on Jun 20, 2011 11:28 AM PDT reply actions

SB Nation's latest mock draft has the Jazz taking Kanter at #3,

and the “live” mock has them taking Derrick Williams.

by section214 on Jun 20, 2011 11:33 AM PDT up reply actions

Okay maybe not everyone

But everyone does seem to think that the Jazz are in need of a PG, and if they don’t think Knight, Walker or Jimmer will be available at 12, it would seem likely that they would take a PG at 3

by amack10 on Jun 20, 2011 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions

At #3 the Jazz need to draft the best player available

If Derrick Williams falls to them, they can use him at SF. If they think that Kanter or Valanciunas is the answer, then they slide that guy in with Jefferson and Millsap. They have Devin Harris, so while they could improve themselves at the PG, it’s not like they have no PG at the moment.

by section214 on Jun 20, 2011 11:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Derrick Williams is definitely someone they can't pass on

But I doubt he falls to 3. It would seem the Wolves would get more value trading the pick than keeping it and selecting Kanter, unless Kanter is better than I personally think he is. Rubio + Kanter brings a lot of unknowns. I agree that the Jazz should draft BPA. Okur is on the final year of his contract so i could see them getting a big, but I think they would still have a little too much redundancy in their frontcourt and would have to make a trade. From my standpoint, that is, with relatively little knowledge of Kanter/Valanciunas/Vesely, it seems you cant go wrong by picking up a PG at 3 and a SG at 12. It fills two needs and they potentially have their starting backcourt of the future.

by amack10 on Jun 20, 2011 12:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Great take

The key is how good is Kanter (or Valanciunas, for that matter), and that is the great unknown.

No way they're passing on Williams.

They need wings.. but O’Connor is likely to go with BPA (which is probably Kanter)

by CoolFinity on Jun 20, 2011 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions

I think we should just trade the pick and move down a few spots

I would not mind picking up Klay but with the 7th pick? Maybe…..He would be great next to Reke! Our backcourt would have, MT23/Reke with Beno/Klay off the bench….but eventually i would love to see Reke/Klay together….that is a very tall, backcourt and with Reke maybe growing as a player seeing that Passing to Klay who can shoot well might help out the team…..
