In Petrie we trust?

May turn into an oxymoron.

I don’t get it, we drop three spots in the draft to pick up a player who is far less tradeable and who’s contract is worse for what? A thirty one year old, ball dominant small forward who was traded just two years prior.

Where are we spending the big bucks??? Gee maybe we can get Baron Davis.

by Dub_TC on Jun 23, 2011 7:31 PM PDT reply actions

But Jimmer’s development is independent of the trade. We could’ve had him either way. And honestly I liked to see Beno stick around as a 4th guard even if he did somehow slide down the depth chart. Who better to teach Reke and Jimmer the art of the pull up 12 footer?

by Evan A on Jun 23, 2011 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

We could have taken him at 7

The only difference was that maybe we would have had to pay him slight more. I don’t know how rookie contracts scale by pick position but maybe you owe the 10th pick a little less. At any rate, Salmon’s contract doesn’t make that any better.

Jimmer was smooth as silk, honeycutt looked like he’d never done that move before in his life. He is very unskilled offensively and is like a Tayshaun w/ no offensive confidence, yet….maybe it morphs into something else but I agree with the comparison of Matt Barnes at best, except he was a thug, baller w/ a knack for the game and a chip on his shoulder. I don’t know…maybe Jimmer made him look bad in that video but I don’t know what the kings saw in him

Geoff Petrie might have been an overrated GM from day 1. He got lucky a few times but mostly Adelman made him look like a genius because he is one of the best at getting the best out of his roster. Ever since Adelman left everyone from Peja to BIbby has looked like shit.

I get that you think that

Again, this is the NBA. I don’t think you can just assume a guy who didn’t pass in college will suddenly be exceptional at it at the pro level.

Aykis' bad attitude and vulgar language is enlightening.

There needs to be some F-bombs for occasions such as this. Re-acquiring a black-hole small forward to play in a black-hole offensive gameplan for an inept head coach pisses us off Petrie! And all that so you could LOSE three spots in the lottery.

As much as I dislike the idea of Salmons, realistically, it’s a better situation than it would have been in with Beno. We needed a SF. Salmons is a SF. We wanted to draft a G, which meant we needed to get rid of a G. I see why it was done.

We still have more money than anyone to play about in FA or to conduct more trades and whathaveyou, and realistically, are only paying about a million more a year for Salmons than for Beno, who again fills a need. Maybe he’s not worth it, but he’s now the best SF we have. Not better than Cisco offensively, perhaps, but better defensively, and more consistent all around than either Omri or Donte.

No, I don’t like the trade, but I see why it was done.

by Charles L. Pierro on Jun 23, 2011 9:19 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

In the same vein of things, we still have a good number of players who can become fodder for further trading. Salmons is our starting SF right now, but what if he ends up as your backup?

Right.

You like him a little better, don’t you?

by Charles L. Pierro on Jun 23, 2011 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s not my plan. It’s simply what I currently see happening. He starts, until and if we aaquire a better SF, and then he comes off your bench or gets traded. Reality still stands that the move, as unwelcome as it could be, was needed. Beno or MT would have been livid with the guard situation. We had to dump one, and Salmons was available att.

by Charles L. Pierro on Jun 23, 2011 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Im just saying

If you traded for Salmons with the intent of making him your backup, that was not a good decision.

by Deleran on Jun 23, 2011 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

I just read the official media release on Kings.com

and it’s amazing how close Beno & Salmons career stats are.

Salmons; 9 yrs; 10.1 pts; 44%; 37% 3pt.; 81% ft; 3.1 reb; 2.5 asst
Beno; 7 yrs; 9.6 pts; 47%; 36% 3pt; 84% ft; 3.5 asst; 2.3 reb

I guess the difference is…with Beno we were lacking a starting SF, with Salmons we have a vet SF starter who defends the perimeter.

by busybe on Jun 23, 2011 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

we'll see...

I just know I perused the rosters for a veteran SF to trade for many times and when I saw Salmons I thought to myself “that would (should) never happen”

by busybe on Jun 23, 2011 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

So we needed help at SF and PG

At PG we lost Beno, but got Jimmer (future 4 time 3pt contest winner) and Isaiah Thomas. At SF we got Salmons (excuse me, I just threw up a little in my mouth) and Tyler Honeycutt. Not bad, but not great. I just hope the little vomits in my mouth don’t become chronic watching Salmons this year.

I hope we sign Dalembert. We can offer him plenty because we filled our veteran free agent SF need with Salmons (excuse me, little puke again) and we’re only spending an extra million or so compared to Beno.

I hope there may be more roster adjustments coming
