Ranking the Top 50 Sacramento Kings, Pick No. 35

"Ball"
Hedo Turkoglu is your 34th Greatest Sacramento King of All-Time. Turkoglu might have been the ultimate Petrie pick, as if Geoff hadn't taken him 16th, he probably would have gone in the mid to late 2nd round.
HOW TO VOTE:
Voting is done via the comment section. To vote, simply add a comment with the name of the person you would like to vote for. Feel free to explain your vote if you wish, or not. If you are a lurker who doesn't post much, this could be a good opportunity to create an account (it is super easy and completely free) and start interacting with the community. This is definitely the picture I'm using when JT wins
I already have the perfect caption in mind too.

Mike Woodson for me.
Original Sacramento King, probably would have gone a bit higher if we included Kansas City. Leading scorer for Sacramento in their first ever playoff series.

Duane Causwell
429 games and the most blocks in the Sac era have to count for something. In this case, something = #35.
Plus, he was part of the team that ended a near-decade playoff drought.

Bonzi Wells
by the way the PER for Cuttino is missing

I'm assuming those voting for Salmons over Woodson
are doing so because Salmons played more games for Sacramento than Woodson? Because they’re pretty similar players (Woodson probably the better scorer) and Woodson played on a much better team.

Bonzi Wells for me.
Came over from Memphis for B-Jax. In the playoffs against the Spurs he singlehandedly won that series for the Kings, he left the following year after turning down a BIG deal from the Kings. (6 years 42 million?)
JT once again..Sorry but you cant tell me a guy who was worked his butt off and has been faithful to this team doesn’t deserve to be higher then John Freaking Salmons. I know all the JT hate here, but look at the stats over his career, and this is just the beginning of his career vs Salmons who was in his prime

JT hate?
I think bench blob is the only who doesn’t like JT.

DeMarcus Cousins
I love DMC, he played a whole season here and a few times he was dominant beyond my hopes and dreams.
Love out to JT but he’s frustrated me with his play too many times to give him a nod yet.
Salmons… uhh, can’t do that here either.
I have Ricky Berry on deck. His suicide ended what I believe would have been all-star potential. He had a few nights in that rookie year where he went crazy, dropped 40 points at least once. Devastating loss. I was an angry kid.
JT
Good stats and decent ammount of time spent on team. And overall a great attitude.
Brook Steppe?
When will he rise from the shadows of…well being Brook Steppe I guess. On second thought…..maybe Bruce Douglas?
Mitch Richmond - All-Time leader in shots taken with a toe on the three point line. True Story...You can look it up.

My reason may be rather odd (especially for a Kings blog.) JT (along with Cisco, Donte Greene, Mike Bibby, and Bobby Jackson) regularly showed up to Monarchs games. I realize that isn’t very scientific or stat related, but it mattered to me. There are several players today that I like (and several that I still know little or nothing about), so everything, however small to others, figured into my vote.
DMC
..and then Thompson, because DMC has a big edge in offensive awareness, passing ability, because he’s more of a bruiser down low, and because he’s clutch.
Also, I see so many “Salmons” titles, but not one reason as to why he should be picked over any of the others.
Here’s why I don’t think Salmons should be picked after DMC:
Salmons….dribble dribble dribble…..dribble dribble dribble….pass the ball to himself, then shoots. Also, I remember so many end game situations where Salmons wouldn’t pass the ball out, then shoot a brick. Sure, he’s fairly efficient for a SF, and a good defender, but he stagnates the offense.
You want a reason?
Salmons, for all his faults, was a good player on a bad team. Same as Kevin Martin and, for a time, Brad Miller, Mike Bibby, and Ron Artest (Note: I’m fully aware they were not on the same team). Neither of those players were perfect, and barely any of them were starter-caliber for another team. My pick of Salmons is because, good or bad, he was able to do something most of the time.
He was a scorer first and foremost, and on a team that lacked any scoring talent (and, let’s face it, lacked competent coaching), Salmons and K-Mart were almost forced to do everything on the offensive end. So I understand the ballhog argument, and I know he did it on future teams as well, but IMO, he did what was needed of him. And as I recall, his ballhogging ended up in at least 3 game winning shots. Dallas, 3OT Golden State, and an assist to Cisco against the Grizzlies I believe. So, as with most players, Salmons first stint had negatives and positives. I think that Salmons’ negatives were magnified due to the terrible teams he was on and his attitude in the locker room. But he played well for the most part in the situation he was put in.
DMC, while he has the chance to become a great player, had just as many faults in his rookie year. DMC played great, at times, but overall was a very inconsistent, inefficient player. Whether that was his doing or PW is anyones guess, but that doesn’t change the fact that he ended up playing the way he did. And we can’t disregard the off-court problems, such as the fight with Donte. Don’t get me wrong, I love Demarcus, I want to see him thrive, and I was thrilled by how good he played in stretches. But, to me, in 81 games, DMC has not shown enough to warrant being picked over Salmons. But then again that’s just my opinion.
