Tyler Honeycutt, Hassan Whiteside Assigned To D-League's Reno Bighorns

The Kings announced just after Sunday's game that Hassan Whiteside and Tyler Honeycutt have been assigned to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League. The annual D-League Showcase is actually being held in Reno next week, so a broader audience will get a look at the two prospects.

It's a good move

if you can separate it from all of the other shenanigans going on right now. There is not much time for practice with the compressed schedule, which completely limits opportunities for Whiteside and Honeycutt. This gives them both a chance to play.

I'd rather see Honeycutt go on his own

I really don’t know what they intend on doing with Whiteside. As soon as he may ever be ready to actually play a minute in the NBA his contract will be up anyways, and why bother resigning him?

I don't think that they have to share a bed,

though this is the Maloofs that we’re talking about…

hopefully they can get some run.

i wish more teams did this with developing players.

Hopefully

Whiteside has a better attitude about it this time around. I recall him complaining about it last year. He doesn’t have many more chances to prove he can stick in this league.

Long road trip on the horizon

Team has determined these two won’t be playing. Instead of shuttling them hotels, send them to D-League to play some ball.

he just has an impact of the ok-ness of the team

I'm enthusiastic about Honeycutt after he's had time in the weight room

I fear that Whiteside does not have the head for the NBA game.

Yeah, Honeycutt just looked like he was in a little over his head.

Really jittery. More time at a high-level will help him a lot.

I have

high hopes for Honeycutt. He showed a desire for an all-around game at UCLA to include a desire to pass and defend. I know each player is in individual, but the professional development of players from UCLA also gives him a little extra intrigue.

Love, Holiday, Collison, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute, Westbrook.

All of these guys have met or exceeded the potential that they showed at UCLA in my opinion. I for one think this bodes well for Honeycutt Cheerios as soon as he puts a little meat on that frame (as Section said) and gains some experience.

I for one, will be watching those box scores. Go Bighorns!

This makes a lot of sense

A lot of road games coming back, and as section214 points out, with the compressed schedule, this doesn’t leave much time for practice, so sending them to Reno where they can play basketball in a competitive setting is probably best. I know Hassan had some trouble fitting in down there last time he went, maybe having a teammate with him will help him be more comfortable too.

I have high hopes for Hassan Whiteside

He has the potential to lead the league in blocks & be DPOY. He just needs time to play and develop. There are few players out there that have his length, strength and athleticism. Ben Wallace was an average player in his first four seasons, then became a perennial all-star.

I was really excited about Whiteside when we drafted him.

But I don’t think he cares enough. Not right now. Maybe he isn’t a competitor, maybe he is too nice, too young? I don’t know what it is, but nothing about him gives me faith he will develop. I hope I am wrong…dead wrong, because all of the other tools seem to be there.
