Another very ugly, filthy game, That is not competitive and is hard to watch, I was hoping there would be no more of that :(

We're playing a 3-2 zone
Hmmm against a team shooting 60+%.

I don't like this team right now.
Not in the game but the team itself. So many players who don’t help us in any way. Such a collectively low basketball IQ team. This team needs a huge make over right now. The Kings are not ok by any means right now. We need to make some huge changes fast or we’re looking at more years of failure. This rebuilding project is a failure so far. We’ve yet to make any improvements. I’m tired of being ridiculed for being a Kings fan. Shit needs to change.
Have you seen Geoff petries hair though?
remember the great team he put together 13 years ago?

We just made the coaching change which will put our current players in a different light
GP was gathering players for a PW ‘system’. Now he will gather for a Smart system. After 20 games of the new guy we will be able to what see more precisely what we need because we will now in fact be able to define rolls and gather players to fill those rolls. SF is priority #1 IMO.

How many opporunities did we blow on the first half by missing wide open shots?
Like I said in the Game Thread I: Trade all our wings!
We just arent flowing well. We gotta run more plays, better plays, and everyone has to do it right. We are playing too tight and too sloppy and too slow.

Starting 5 +/-
J. Salmons -18
J.J. Hickson -14
D. Cousins -16
J. Fredette -14
T. Evans G -17
Pretty sure that ain’t gonna cut it.
We might have all the talent in the world, but it’s pretty obvious the pieces don’t compliment each other. I love the Kings, but I hate this team.

Wait, didn't you predict the 76ers would thump us? This is kind of expected
Disappointing and hard to watch, but not unexpected. New coach. Missing MT23. One the road against one of the best regular season teams. Great D, disciplined O.
This stinks, but more livable than the games earlier in the season.
Yeah, this game sucks, but 2 of 3 games have been good since PW gone
And that’s with no time for the new coach to implement anything.
Still heading in a good direction. Have to shake this off and get ready for Toronto tomorrow.
If we win tomorrow we are still .500 since PW fired.
I did say they would thump us

This team really lacks talent
It would help if some of these opponents would have an off night. Even when the Kings play good defense they keep hitting the low percentage shot.
The Sixers are one of the hottest and deepest teams in the league right now
So if we are not at our absolute best, we will get dumped on. This should be a learning experience for the team. And oh, Tyreke > Holiday

But I guess you can argue that once we got rid of the veterans (Miller, Salmons, Bibby) that’s when it became official
And we didn't draft our first "building block" until '08(Tyreke)

Our defense can really look bad seeing as how our guards can’t keep their man from penetrating and we don’t have a shot blocker down low to make up for our terrible perimeter D.
On the flip side, we have terrible TERRIBLE 3 point shooters (aside from MT23) on a primarily dribble-drive offense which lives or dies by the 3 point shot…
I get the feeling Petrie will make some moves here in the next couple days.

We really lack scoring without MT23
or at the very least… the floor spacing that he can give us even on a bad shooting night. Not to mention his perimeter D is probably the best we have from the guard, small forward position on a consistent basis (unless Tyreke really tries).
Defense gives a team pride and energy.
I still say winning always starts with D, though. Offense will come.
Now, we’re solely an offensive team—who doesn’t care about D—without any consistent offense = FUGLY.
Also, we’re not good enough to not have a PG on the team (who doesn’t have significant liabilities). Got to have somebody who can take control of this crap offense and orchestrate, someone who can play smart and preferably not turn the ball over. One of the PFs has to go for a proven guard. We can’t wait for Jimmer and Isiah to develop—while DMC (and other players’) attitudes worsen, if that’s possible, from all the blowouts.
I had no idea we would be this deficient though. Even with Hayes, we were getting carved up inside by every decent team. We gotta start with D.
Other teams must love padding their stats against us.
Yes!!!! Jimmer's 3point is the best thing to happen in this game.

Wow
I am now convinced that we will end up with the worse record in the league. I think we all know the worst team almost never gets the first pick which just adds to the depression. Rebuilding for 7 years and we have managed to pick up a little young talent and become the worst team in the league. Very young players who obviously don’t by into defense or running actual plays. IMO we need to clean house of everything including Geoff Petrie. if i had my way i would also make the Magoofs sell the team. Young talent means nothing when they do what they want and don’t by in to a team concept. Going to be one of the most depressing seasons i have ever seen.
Ninerking
I was thinking the same thing about Geoff. Then I remembered who has has the absolute displeasure of working for and I calmed down. I honestly feel this is ALL the Maloofs fault.
The Maloof brothers have proven over the years that they have absolutely no business owning a professional sports franchise. How do you have the lowest payroll in the league and not go out and shake things up, either via trade or free agency!? They are the epitome of why I hate LA people. All show and no go!
The endless pounding.
A hole, blacker than despair.
John Salmons is back.

Pretty sure that the rookies are lost BECAUSE the other guys are ego centered ballhogs...
They only pass the ball to jimmer when there’s like 4 seconds on the clock so of course he has to shoot off balance. This team needs to build trust in one another and think TEAM first. When Jimmer tried to do that everyone harped on him to just shoot it… How’s THAT working out?! Ugh.

Or our neighbors to the North, who are getting blown out by the other worst team in the league.

And Donte is terrible.
What does that say about Salmons? Better yet, what does that say about our team?

That the SF position is weak

That Salmons is more interested in collecting his paycheck than he is playing.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
That was one of the worst games I have ever seen the Kings play.

This team has too many gunners not enough roleplayers
Jimmer, Hickson, Salmons, Outlaw, IT… You can’t use these guys as roleplayers around Reke/Thornton/Cousins. We need more Cisco, Donte, Thompson types on the roster
Salmons, Outlaw, Garcia, Greene
has to be the worst 1-4 at SF in the league, at least they make the league minimum, oh wait, about 20 million
by OKO on Jan 10, 2012 6:18 PM PST up reply actions 2 recs
SF non existent
Is it me or do we get absolutely nothing from the small forward spot? Salmons only real contribution is scoring and he is doing a horrible job of that. He starts and does nothing. Seems like after 5 years of developing Donte he is still in a developmental stage? With his tools and size he should be dominating but he is still too raw. After 4 years of development.

This team is lacking it so badly!
Petrie, please, please, please get a few veterans to teach these boys how to play!

Salmons is not a leader.
Hes a veteran sure, but he doesn’t say much and nobody will listen to him the way he plays.
by ridingthebench on Jan 10, 2012 6:21 PM PST up reply actions
No.
We brought Salmons and Hayes here because of their “leadership”. Leadership is an overrated quality. What we need are smart, selfless players.
by SoCal Diplomat on Jan 10, 2012 6:21 PM PST up reply actions
Salmons is not much of a leader. He was always quiet.
Your best players have to lead. Our best players right now are Reke and DMC.
One only knows how to play selfish ball, the other one blames everyone else for everything and has the worst attitude in NBA.

BENO
Was a veteran who actually showed leadership qualities. He was also our best point guard. Why we traded him I will never know.
by ridingthebench on Jan 10, 2012 6:23 PM PST up reply actions 1 recs
Eh.... we are without our best scorer and defender.
I mean what did you guys expect to happen really? We already know Salmons and Outlaw can’t shoot, Tyreke can’t pass, etc. Just look at the rest of the teams in the league, they are without a doubt better then us. This will be another lottery pick year and if we are lucky… the balls will fall our way and we can end up with a stud point guard or small forward.
Turrible
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
So far this year 76ers have the most efficient offense
that being said holy shit 30 assist to 10 turnovers
Let's just fire Petrie.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
They were blown out like this at Denver last week...
Don’t think it is going to light a fire…
Look
Worst offense in the league, coupled witlh the worst defensive team in the league, you ain’t gonna win many games people. If you want to shake it up bring in a new gm.
Bad loss
But no need to over react. Young teams will lose games like these. Our last two were very competitive. Philly is a very, very good team this year. Mentioned this earlier, but on the road without MT23 and Hayes and having 1 practice with our new coach is a bad formula.
Tonight sucked to watch, but is the kind of blowout that will happen with a young team. Not nearly as bad as the stinkers from earlier in the season. Drink a beer and relax.
Tomorrow we play a beatable Raptors team and if we win we ware .500 in the Smart era.
Dude

Been doing this for too many years now.

This is just as bad
All the momentum we had as far as fan interest will be gone by the next home game, get ready for crowds of 11500 at arco
We'll see. We knew beggining of the season would be tough
But 3 of our next 4 are against much more beatable teams. Let’s see how the team regroups.
Somewhere paul westphal is laughing right now.

Responsibility
The players are playin’…not Maloof, Petrie, Westphal or Smart. Playing cohesively they have a chance…but it takes timetimetime. Give ’em some.
I for one will accept any line up that plays HARD, and improves
Smart says guys need to get into condition - they are not in condition yet.
Who came in conditioned? Cousins & JT
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Isaiah Appears to be in condition

Maybe he will get a little more PT
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
I understand all the frustration.
Ive watched 98 percent of Kings games since 1997 or so. After all those playoff years, to see rebuilding continually stymied like this. Continually taking one step forward, three steps back.
Kings fans can take a lot and still give. But selfishness, lack of energy, lack of basketball IQ, lack of D—lack of actually playing team ball is hard to stomach.
This was not the year to have one of our all-time most dysfunctional squads, Petrie.
I guess the Home in Hermosa Beach will come in handy

Well from the sounds of it, at least you're conditioned for this type of a year.
Same here….although I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan too. Totally used to rooting for a loser.
Hey, we don't have anything on Cleveland.

As much as I am becoming disillusioned with Petrie, who can replace him?

Burkle may be in the picture, but that would mean replacement of the Maloofs and GP. It is what keeps my hopes up.

“I want to get back badly. I just don’t know. The direction the NBA’s going, it seems like they just want to get young ex-players and if you look around the league, there’s not a lot of older coaches anymore. ‘Pop’ [Gregg Popovich] and maybe [Rick] Adelman, but most of these guys are younger, so I don’t know if I fit that mold, but I still believe that I have something to offer

Did ’Reke get hurt, or was he benched sometime in the 3rd quarter?
