Purely a Talking Point-Jason Thompson in the Long Term
This is such a face value, speculative report by RealGm.com. But it brings up potentially a solid discussion. We've brought in JJ Hickson and both he and Jason are eligible for extensions, I believe, at the conclusion of this season. Either way, comparing the two at this point in the season would be productive, especially with this report in mind.

Yep, this is pretty thin stuff
However, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit. JT would be a pretty valuable piece of the puzzle for a better basketball team.
But for this team? JJ Hickson’s potential level (clearly just potential at this point) is at a higher level than JT – so if the decision comes down purely to picking between these two players, it makes sense to go with JJ.
It’s a bummer too, because you’d be removing one of the few players with a high level of work ethic and professionalism from a squad that doesn’t have a lot of either.

If I had to make a choice right now it would be JT
JT seems to have improved this year. He’s cut down on his mistakes & plays within the system(whatever system that may be). He is a better defender than JJ also.
JT works very hard to be a good power forward in the league. JJ already thinks he’s great. I don’t think JT will command 1/2 the money JJ thinks he probably should get. If we can get JT for $4-5 mill over JJ at $8, I’d take that in a heartbeat.

JJ hasn't had serious extension talks either
They are so close to the same value right now (So far, JT has been better) that I would hold my cards right now. Figure out price versus value for both as the season wears on and go from there. I think JT is more willing to play within a team concept at this point.
35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.
Here is tweet
Marreese Speights, Grizzlies (15th); J.J. Hickson, Kings (19th): The agent for both players, Andy Miller, said last week that he’d had “boilerplate” conversations with the Kings about an extension for Hickson, but had not made much headway. Hickson is hoping that Sacramento wants to keep him around after giving up a first-round pick and forward Omri Casspi for him last summer. The two sides will “revisit” a deal in the next few days, Miller said. NBA.com

Also
looks to me they can give JT a qualifying offer and make him an RFA and test the market

Extension????????
What the hell has the guy done to show he deserves an extension? F*cking Petrie man I’m so done with him.

Extension? The Kings are probably trying to decide which one to make a Qualifying Offer.
Based on JJ’s defense and scoring ability, I’d rather keep Donte and play him at the 4. We might lose some rebounding, but not that much.
With Hayes, JJ and JT, the KIngs have the worst set of PF’s in the league. Maybe if you could combine the 3 into one player you’d have a starting 4. JT is the only one that shot outside of 8 ft. He’s a good defender at the 5, but too slow for the 4 which is where Hayes is good. JT isn’t a great rebounder which is JJ’s only strong suit.
Hayes defense, JJ’s rebounding and JT’s outside shot makes for a decent 4. The only player on the team that comes close to matching all 3 of those areas is Donte. I think the final decision on whom the Kings keep will be based on how they want to run the offense. Thru the high or low post with the bigs, or spread the PF out and run with the PG out high and with pick and rolls.
Who’s the best passer, or who can pick and pop or pick and roll the best. And, again I come back to Donte.

I assume when you say Donte is "Close" to JT's Rebounding
You are using this years stats, because historically its 2 to 1 in Hickson’s favor. Over 30 minutes Donte would get 4 Hickson 8. Thats a difference of 4 and probably at least 2 more the other team would have gotten (6 total). Donte is a 3. Donte is a 40% career shooter, JJ and JT around 49%. The only offense Donte has an edge in is range, but only a bit as he hits only 31.6% from 3.
Donte has had rebounding spurts before, until he does it for 40 games in a row, I am going to believe it is temporary.

Not all of Donte's minutes were at PF and Hickson played some Center
82games.com has Donte’s number at PF based on 48 minutes as 11.2 rebounds. Hickson rebounding rating at Center is 13.7 and at PF it’s 14.7. Since we’re using extrapolation to adjust for minutes played at the PF position, one could say that since JJ is only averaging 24 mpg his rebounds would be around 7.5 which is exactly what it is. Using the same formula, Donte’s projection would be 5.6. JT’s projection for 48 minutes in around 9.9 at both PF and Center so adjusted for the same 24 mpg he’d be around 5.0.
So, yes, Donte statiscally is a better rebounder at the PF position than JT, but he’s also less then 2 rebounds per 24 mpg worse than JJ. But, that doesn’t mean that some other Kings player won’t pick up the slack. When Hawes went to Philly, Doug Collins when asked how the team was going to make up the lost rebounds from replacing Dalembert with Hawes. Collins said everyone was going to have to rebound better. Currently, the 76ers are ranked 8th in rebounding 2 places ahead of the Kings.

Yea, this season which is when he's seen the most minutes at the 4.
Oh, and not to say I told you so but, He out rebounded JT and JJ in half the minutes tonight.

+1
At this point, I’m no longer cringing whenever JT posts up. Keep JT for less money.

JT has looked odd competent in the post this year
If I had to rank the 4 bigs on how they have performed this year I would go JT Hayes JJ and Greene

How stupid would it be if they just let him go for nothing?
Instead of trading him for other needs/assets (like they should have done with Dalembert last year). It pisses me off just thinking about. LAZY

Maybe Sacramento wants JT to test the market...
… not for his own sake, but for the Front Office, this way they know they’re not outbidding themselves.

Robert Frost (1874–1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.
The Road Not Taken
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."

I meant to post this for the Timberwolves Post. So I reposted it there.

You offer each of these guys in trade at the deadline -
Whichever one fetches you the higher draft pick gets dealt, and you work out an extension with the other.

Makes sense.

At this point I would gladly take back
the conditional pick we originally gave for Hickson.

Can we do that with Hayes instead? and offer both of them an extension?
I wouldn’t mind having JJ around if someone could teach him to play defense. And, I think it’s too late to start teaching Chuck to shoot.
