Keith Smart to Jimmer: "Be You".
"Looking for his shot a little bit more would be better for him, but I think he's trying to fit into a team," said Kings coach Keith Smart. "But I'm telling him all the time: 'Be you. Don't try to be this point guard and average 10 assists – just be you and shoot when you have to shoot. The team understands that.' "

Good. We don't have enough players that like to shoot the ball.
All kidding aside. This is good advice. Jimmer looks like he’s been trying to adjust to the NBA and fit into a specific niche. He needs to just play and adjust. Start getting confident and in a rhythm and then sort the rest out later.
I agree, Jimmer start being like you
and stop shooting like the rest of the team.

Piece of advice Jimmer
aim for the round orange thing with the rope like stuff hanging off of it. Psst…pass it on.
35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.

These are the Kings - be specific
Aim for the inside of the orange thing with the rope like stuff hanging off it…with the ball passing through the orange thing first…from the top side.

Humm ??? cause assists suck? or cause the team is over quota?? or he don’t want to hurt the other players feelings???

I think it more has to do that Jimmer looks completely lost out there
Trying to be something he doesn’t know how to be. Smart would rather him play the role that he knows how to play and worry about trying to transform him into something later on down the road.

Did they draft him to be an undersized 2 guard or do they think he can actually be converted to a point?

Agree
I think he just wants Jimmer to get his game going and then when he gets there start adding in the PG stuff

I guess there weren’t any point guards in the draft then?

What does that have to do with getting Jimmer acclimated
If you question is if there was a pure PG ready to step in and be a NBA point guard from day 1, then the answer is no.
Irving has been the closes, but Kemba has been finally getting his footing as a combo guard. Knight has been pretty abysmal. He’s averaging more turnovers than assists right now.
3 years from now, this might be a very different story. But for today, most rookies in this class are still trying to get comfortable with the league having had the normal rookie adjustment, plus no summer league, no contract with their coaches till the lockout ended and almost no preseason.
Adding
It’s really not a surprise that most of the rookies have had pretty tepid results so far. Whether or not this turns out to be a good draft class, this has been a very challenging set of circumstances for this rookie class. They have all had contact with their coaches for about a month now.
Normally after a month of contact with their coaches, the rookies are just starting Summer League.
Only 20 to 30% of first round picks ever turn
into serious players. Jimmer will loosen up eventually, I just can’t tell his limit until he does.

just trying to figure out what their thinking was? If they needed a point they must think he can be trained or else there were no better one’s in the draft? or maybe they just thought he was best player available? If they think Tyreke is their point of the future then I’m wondering if they were drafting jimmer to trade for a bigger 2 guard cause a little 2 can make it tough to play defense? Just seems like a lot going on there that doesn’t add up.

My guess is they thought Jimmer would be a good shooter and passer
Who could play alongside Evans and Cousins and help spread the floor and occasionally run the offense.
If Evans and Cousins are going to emerge into star players, you don’t need a pure PG next to them. They will dominate possessions and hopefully learn how to balance their scoring ability with involving their teammates. Putting a Jose Calderon next to them is a bad fit. Putting a pure shooter and good passer works. My only quibble would be it would have been nice if that player was also a good defender.

I think they wanted him to sell jerseys
but that he was a great shooter and the team needed a pure shooter it was a good bonus

Once Jimmer becomes efficient in his role, he can expand his game.

If Jimmer were actually averaging 10 assists, there wouldn't be an issue.
Coach Smart is recognizing that Jimmer seems to be trying- and, mostly, failing- to adjust his game in a way that he’s not comfortable with. Smart is hoping that Jimmer can get his mind in a more comfortable place and that the result will hopefully be better production on the court.

Maybe he's actually Jim Me Red.
He could be telling some guy named Jim about his political leanings.
This.
Clearly, this fellow got Jimmer'd
Thus his name is Jimmered. This explains his distaste for Jimmer, as most conquered foes feel.

So no one in the NBA
Has a distaste for Jimmer then? :P
