If the Kings don't offer thompson an extension I will be pretty upset.

Hickson, and Salmons have been busts while JT has shone in limited minutes that he is at least consistent from the field and will rebound with the best of them.

Not ready to call the JJ move a bust just yet.

I called the Salmons move a bust as soon as it happened.

I wonder

if JT’s (and JJ’s) tradeability is an issue at all here. That is, either of these guys would probably possess more trade deadline value as 1 and done QO guys than guys that are under contract for millions of dollars. I don’t know.

I do know that in the perfect world, your 3rd big is already under contract in the form of Chuck Hayes, and one of your starters is here in the form of DeMarcus Cousins. If Thompson or Hickson don’t forecast out to be the yang to Cousins’ yin (and I don’t know that either does), then spending chunks of money for either guy may not be the wisest course.

The problem is

I don’t think the FO sees Hayes as a third big, I think they see him as our starter and are content. If that’s the case I sure as hell would like to keep JT, because we know if they go out to find someone to replace him, it’s going to be a downgrade almost guaranteed. I can see trading JJ, but it worries me they are in “boilerplate discussions” to extend him

It would be sad to see JT go

He is a class act. He always seemed to be in good spirits no matter what this team has gone through.

Also he developed himself ON HIS OWN in the offseason(obviously the organization doesn’t have the capability to do it) he worked his ass off & this is how the organization treats him?

In my opinion he’s better than Chuck Hayes. Maybe not a better defender but a better all around player.

I'll be so pissed

If the Kings dont offer JT an extension. He’s really coming through in his own position since he doesnt have to play minutes behind DMC like he did last year. We drafted him and hes built a great relationship with his teammates and alot of fans enjoy him being a member of this team. I think JT can really flourish in the right system and I think Smart has it.

I was just giving up on him

He has shown so much more improvement this year. I thought this guy had 4 yrs in college and he’s been in the league 3 years, there’s no way he’s going to be anything besides a hustle guy. He’s not athletic enough, not cooridnated enough, and not able to use his left at all. He belongs on the Kings and I wouldn’t trade him unless we get a real upgrade.

JT is a class act.

And I would be happy to see him signed. I would not like us to spend too much though.

This reminds of of Garcia. Good enough to keep around and a great guy, but not good enough IMO to pull in the money he has made. Obviously this year’s progress will determine a lot.

Wait he’s not worth the 2-4 million he’s been making..Respectfully disagree with your point. Honestly I think a contract of MLE would be worth it for him (Between 5-6 per year)

My poorly structured sentence was meant to indicate Garcia is not worth what he is making.

5-6 per year is probably about right.

Ok good..Yeah Garcia, I think has bad luck when it comes to Injuries, and honestly he is someone I think a contendor could use at about 3 million a year..

Please pay the man, Kings;

just don’t overpay the man.

Thanks.

Make it a great day! :)

If JT continues to start and play well

I have a feeling the Kings will change their mind about not offering him an extension.

They have until next Wednesday

So unless he drops a few 30-20 games in a row here, I doubt it.

Here's the breakdown:

Jason Thompson is a player that every single team in the league needs: a solid big body and role guy who can give consistent production in the ways expected of him.

There’s probably nobody else on the Kings like JT. At least in the sense that (short of maybe Cousins, and that’s speculative based on his willingness to contribute), no other guy on the Kings addition instantly makes every single team in the NBA a better team.

But… Here’s the kicker: There’s more than a few JTs in the league (most seasoned veterans, so Thompson’s age may be his biggest perk) and bidding for them is not entirely fierce. Quite frankly, they’re exactly the guys midlevel money was made for.

And that’s where the bidding will begin.

"More than a few?"

I’m curious to see the names of the people you think are comparable to JT.

Qualities of JT:
—Height
—Length
—Conditioning
—Strength
—Defense
—Affordable
—Reliable Mid-Range Jumper
—Developing Post Game

Marcin Gortat is the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head (minus the jump shot), and the only reason he’s performing well is a guy named Steve Nash.

I cannot agree with those who rank modesty among the virtues. To the logician all things should be seen exactly as they are, and to underestimate one’s self is as much a departure from truth as to exaggerate one’s own powers.
