He sounds about the same to me
But I like him as a writer. I may not agree with his opinions all the time but I appreciate his ability to articulate them.

I would have never thought to have the arena in the old railyard.
Thought the idea was crazy, but I see the merits now.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Just saying
but curious how far off the projections on the sale tax revenue would have been off given the economy collapsed 4 years later.
If the railheads is worth 750 mil in 06
How much is it worth now? A billion?
by Lotusprime on Jan 21, 2012 4:38 PM PST via mobile reply actions
Yards. Railyards.
Stupid iPhone.

We hit a recession since 06
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Yeah
But that land is gonna be worth a gazillion dollars in about ten to fifteen years.
by Lotusprime on Jan 21, 2012 4:44 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
In retrospect
It may have been for the best that Q&R failed. Sactown ate it pretty hard in the recession and the sales tax may have failed to cover the loan.
On one hand a lot of the railyard and downtown stuff with Fargo was skipped (plus some of the stuff with the city and the Maloofs where Thomas walked out of the city council meeting)
on the other hand, insanely complicated and probably not necessary
Very difficult to capture nuances of political situations
It would have bogged big time.

it was my first game in two years
and I used to go a ton when I was a kid so for me it was really surreal bizarre

back between probably about 96 and until about 02 I would usually go to about 10 to 15 games a year
the last game in that period was the one game I went to in 01/02 which was Kings-Lakers. Anywho, I didn’t go to a game again until 07/08 and it was such a weird experience because I never had been to a game before that wasn’t a sell out. So for me, Here We Stay kind of felt like a time machine.

I got interested in the team in 2002
I never went to any of the the Kings games in that era. I didn’t really catch on to what was happening until when I watched the team in that playoff year. I had moved here from the Bay Area and just involved in other areas of my life at the time. It must have really been something for all you guys to be on that amazing ride. I hope this team will turn around and the team will do a repeat of that amazing era, but capture the ring.

Technically the Kings do kinda mirror the community
especially considering we’re talking about about disposal incomes
Im not gonna lie
when grant and jerry were talkin rite there i damn near shed a tear myself
after lakers won
kobe went to phil jackson and said “what a fitiing way to end the era huh?”
i hate him
such a classy guy

technically
considering it was the last game and Fisher was in charge of the Player’s Association right before a lockout everyone knew was coming, might not be what we thought it was.

I am really curious if there is still a purchase of the Kings goin on in the background with the arena stuff
and whether it’s linked with some of the financing ideas going on within the tent
it’s the only thing that I can think of that would make this politicaly possible short of winning in court.
by wallywagon11 on Jan 21, 2012 5:12 PM PST up reply actions
I don't think the Maloofs or the NBA are ignorant of the Burkle-AEG connection
Plus, Darius Anderson as a living, breathing bridge from Burkle to the arena campaign. KJ nor anyone else is going to wave those things in people’s faces, but they’re there all the same.
Something new that I think is a huge game changer in regards to the March 1 “deadline” is the revenue sharing deal. Even without knowing the details, we know that the Maloofs are now in a better position to “stick it out” in Sacramento if there aren’t any immediately better alternatives, and/or it makes the team a lot more attractive to a prospective buyer.

Speaking of the whole "Chief Marketing" people thing
kind of funny how the ThinkBIG stuff has been here in Sac for so long and then when the season starts the NBA in it’s national campaign is all about “BIG” Things
Ha, never thought of that.
If Stern got that from us, he better be thinking BIG for Sacramento’s chances in this year’s lottery…

Good timing to show this documentary.
Valuable documentary, not only for Sacramento’s cause, but the cause for any small market that finds itself in a similar situation in the future. There is still a lot left. This story is not over.
Thank you.
