Marcus Thornton Remains Out For Kings, But John Salmons Will Play
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports that Marcus Thornton, who left the Sacramento Kings' blowout loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, will miss the team's Monday game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Thornton had missed three games with a thigh contusion, but returned roughly a week ago. On Friday against the San Antonio Spurs, Thornton reaggravated the injury. He was able to stay in the game and tried to go on Saturday, but the leg ended up tightening up too much. It seems as if he might miss a bit of time to recover fully, which isn't great news for a Kings roster trying to squeeze out some consistency.
Jones reports that John Salmons will be back in action after missing Saturday's game with food poisoning. Salmons was hospitalized in Memphis on Saturday and just caught up with the team in Portland on Sunday.
The Kings play the Blazers at 7 p.m. Pacific on Monday.

In other news: We are still out of our beef sirloin, but we did get in a ship of ground round.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Also from SI.com about the Portland guard screen offense
It’s such a simple thing, but it works, in part because of the fast pace at which Portland is playing: One Blazer guard, normally Raymond Felton, will speed-dribble the ball up the sideline directly at another guard stationed near the three-point line on the wing. When they meet, Felton will either hand the ball off and cut to the hoop off his teammate’s screen, or keep his dribble going toward the corner, using the other guard for a ball screen.
You’d be surprised how much chaos this can cause defenses. They either switch themselves into a less favorable matchup or run the risk of losing the ball-handler around the screen. And since Portland’s guards are pushing the pace, there aren’t any big men clogging the lane when this initial action happens on the sideline. If Felton can turn the corner, he’ll often have a clear path to the rim. It’s another funky way in which a team lacking perimeter shot creators can nonetheless create shots.
I hope the guys read it.

Scouting report on Portland
Make them play half court offense. Done.

Off topic
I’ve been in San Diego past couple of days. How does this city not have an NBA team?
On topic, we need MT back to 100% and shooting 45%.
35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.

Lineup/Matchups?
1 – Evans -———- Felton
2 – Salmons -———- Matthews
3 – Greene -———- Wallace
4 – Thompson -———- Aldridge
5 – Cousins -———- Camby

That would make sense to me.
I remember Salmons got 2 quicks fouls on Wallace last time they played on Dec 27th. I think Donte would do much better. Maybe even have IT and Reke start at the 1 and 2. IT could keep up with Felton.
And please Keith, don’t let Jimmer match up with Batum like last time. The third quarter last time was horrible with the mismatches.

I don't recall Batum abusing Jimmer that game.

I think we'll be back to Jimmer in the starting five.
Jimmer-Felton
Reke-Wes
Salmons-GW
JT-LMA
DMC-Camby
This potentially avoids the dreaded Jimmer-Batum matchup TWIP mentions.
Wallace may not play
He sat out the last game. If he does, I’m not sure he plays much, and if he does it’ll be off the bench. That leaves a lot of Batum minutes.

Any word on how healthy Salmons is?
Are we sure he is well enough to start? I’d give the nod to Donte for the height and speed if Batum is starting then.

I'll be at the game.
Wish Thornton was playing. This game better not be like the last game here in Portland.

that show is just devastatingly funny
As someone who has spent months and months the last few years working in Portland, that show is just spot on.
same here...
…and could not agree more.
SNL needs to borrow some of this stuff. Then again, it might become too mainstream at that point :-)
All of the joking aside, Portland is a good model for Sacramento to aspire to in terms of the “buzz factor” generated by a metro area of around 2 million, as well as their work in mass transit. The regions have more in common than most would expect.

Lorne Michaels produces it, Fred is from SNL
and various SNL people have rotated through an episode or two (Samberg) so i think it’s well past being noticed.

Are the kings showcasing Cisco?
This might sound odd, but makes more sense than Salmons. Salmons has a tough contract to move, Cisco is a little less. Perhaps they are showcasing cisco, with the hopes of trading him, and have brought up Honeycutt for practice, so if cisco does go, honeycutt will be familiar with the playcalling to come in as a reserve. Is there anyone else wondering why Donte is not getting noticed enough for his solid play? If anyone should be starting in Salmons spot, it should be Donte IMO, better defender, playing solid, and better rebounder. tyreke, salmons, donte, JT and DMC is a solid 5 with MT23 injured.
