Lets give Jimmer more minutes
I know, its obvious Jimmer’s was off to a ruff start and looks hesitant and lacks confidence. But I really believe I have seen some improvement in him over the last few games. Last game against Portland he came in and contributed right away hitting shots (He shot at 71 %) on 5 of 7 shots (4 of those shots being 3 pointers, in which he made 3 of them). The game before that against Memphis he had 20 points on 40% shooting and added 6 assists and was single handedly getting us back in the game and we yanked him out. We all know we need a consistent shooter. And we all know Jimmer can shoot. While I don’t believe he is a great defender I think his lack of defense is being over played. Maybe even start him and bring in Thornton off the bench. It will raise his confidence tremendously and Thornton will be a huge spark coming off the bench (To be honest I’ve always seen Thornton more as a Jason Terry-off bench type player anyways)..
Here is the number of minutes he’s gotten over the last six games.
Jan 23-20 minutes
Jan 21- 30 minutes
Jan 20- 11 minutes
Jan 18- 6 minutes
Jan 16- 15 minutes
=Very inconsistent minutes
Don’t count him out this early in his NBA career, I know this excuse is being made to about everything in the NBA but its true, its a season with really no training camp or a summer league especially for rookies who needs it the most. Plus he’s already on his second head coach already.
I know we tried to start him 3 games and he didn’t produce. But lets try again under Smart and this time not take him out if he makes a couple bad mistakes so he doesn’t have to play looking over his shoulder worried too much about making a mistake and instead let him play ball. And I know a lot of you will disagree with me. But he has it in him to shoot the lights out. I honestly believe he can get it going quickly with more trust and more minutes. Some players need more minutes in a game just to start getting into the ‘groove’ and he’s one of them. He’s new to the NBA and sure he is getting anxious and he panics at times and has caused some dumb turnovers. But he’s a rookie. That’s expected. That being said, Jimmer is a smart kid. He will figure it out and he will start to adapt and produce. The simple fact is we are losing games and something needs to change anyways and we need a shooter and we have one by the name of Jimmer.

Is it just me
or do the numbers you show actually not inconsistent minutes or consistently increasing minutes?
Under PW this would be consistent minutes
PW would have yanked him for one mistake and sat him for two games by now. Or have had him playing three different positions in the lineup without a clear idea of what he should do on the floor.
Under Smart or any other coach? Maybe he isn’t getting consistent minutes. He isn’t being put in the game in a consistent rotation that can be expected, but part of this is probably due to injuries to MT and some to matching other team’s line ups.
I would like to see him get consistent and increasing minutes with MT out, but that may not be an option right now. It should be, but Smart hasn’t seemed to figure out how to mesh all the pieces of the puzzle yet. Getting there though….
Given Jimmer hitting his shots now, I would say he is one of the few who deserve more minutes. Garcia is the other.

Lets look at
Salmons – plenty of minutes and here is his groove

Don’t fall into it

Jimmer did start the 3 games Thorton missed after his injury
The 76ers, Raptors and Rockets games. We went 1-2 but more importantly, Tyreke had good games in all 3.
Smart might have chose to start Jimmer yesterday, but decided to go with Donte guarding Wallace instead. But, considering how that worked out, he might go with Jimmer again tomorrow.

I think we should bench Salmons and start Jimmer
Let Tyreke play the 2 or the 3.
We need to put our most productive players on the floor. And guys that can score. Jimmer facilitates the offense, forces opposing defenses to adjust for him just by standing by the 3 point line and he’s been very good at finding the open man for assists.
I just want to post here so that picture stays on my screen longer
Since no one has shown the ability to score better why not. Also, I’d just like to see how Jimmer does against 5-11 Ty Lawson and a experienced 6-2 Andre Miller.

More to come. But no, you have to earn your minutes, this isn’t damn little League. This the pros. You best come ready to play. You’re getting paid millions.
You’re the same people who said that even though he was in a slump, give him enough shots and he’ll make 30 points.
Yeah. And give me enough tries in a game and I can do an air Jordan maybe. It’s not going to help.

He sure plays great in blowout losses!
If Jimmer was crack, half of you would be considered pushers. Stop insisting that he’s 100% ready; he ain’t. He will get better, but the notion he should get starter’s minutes (or even start!) is hallucinatory. If you want him to get consistent minutes, then you should be talking about 8-12 a night, depending on how he’s playing, just like the rest of the deep bench players.
Also, stop getting high on your own supply.

But one thing you should know after being a member of the site for all these years is that Sactown has no place for religious bigotry. Your sig line is completely inappropriate, and ban-worthy in my opinion. You are free to have whatever religious views you want but this is not the place to advertise them, and in my opinion totally wrecks any credibility you have have. I’m not ragging on you. I understand that some other Christians don’t feel Mormons fit their definition of Christian. I’d be happier if everyone could put the differences aside and just focus on doing good, helping others, and raising strong families. But I do understand.
My point is just that this is the wrong place for that kind of discussion. I wouldn’t put links to the differences between political parties, Christians and Jews, races, sexual preferences, etc in a post or on a sig line. You are absolutely entitled to your views. This just isn’t the place for that kind of discussion.

props
This two-word slang expression has its origin in Black English, specifically, in the hip-hop culture of young African Americans. In this particular phrase, mad is an adjective meaning ‘many, much, plenty of’, as in "mad publicity, mad dough, mad friends’. But it can also be an adverb meaning ‘very, extremely’, as in "mad cool, mad funny, mad scared’. This use of mad dates from the early 1990s, though the adverb madly (as in ‘madly talented’) is much older.
Though props has several slang senses, here it means ‘proper or due respect; compliments, credit, admiration, or praise’. Since the term implies public recognition, it’s usually used of a performer or other person in the public eye. For example, if a musician “gets (his) props,” he’s gained public recognition for his accomplishments; to “give him his props” is to give him the respect he deserves. However, in my opinion, successful people who have gotten their props should then “give props to their peeps,” that is, they should (at least partially) credit their parents and friends.
According to Clarence Major’s Juba to Jive: A Dictionary of Black American Slang, the Black English term props also refers to any form of support or protection. So your props can include your friends, your family, and even your switchblade.
Though props in the sense of ‘proper respect’ is obviously derived from the adjective “proper,” the sense recorded in Clarence Major’s dictionary overlaps with the standard English sense of ‘support; mainstay’.

you cant play jimmer
He cant guard anyone. he does seem to do a little better guarding 2 guards than pg’s though. He is a liability on d. He hasn’t quite figured out how to keep his man out of the paint. everytime the oposing team sets a screen up top you know the other teams point guard is getting to the rim. Couple that with the fact we have the worst interior d in the league and that doesn’t make for a good or winning combination.
That isn't all his fault though.
He steers the other player into a big, but our rotations and team defense are not up to it.
And when he plays one on one he actually can stay in front of his man. The other team often runs screens and our guys just don’t respond well to, again, rotate and play team defense.
Kind of hard to completely blame Jimmer for this when it is at least equal parts bad team defense.
"I gotta have more cowbell"
by CowbellKings on Jan 24, 2012 8:52 PM PST up reply actions 1 recs
I agree to an extent.
It is not fair to blame him for bad team D but that is not to say he is any good at D either. Watch players on other teams deal with screens. I bet you will see players fighting through screens and staying in front of their man. Never seen Jimmer do this.
A lot of that has to do with the fact that the Kings set really bad picks.
With the exception of Hayes, they usually roll to early or never really get set to begin with.
by Crocoduck on Jan 25, 2012 11:19 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
I might have worded that wrong
I was talking about the inability of Jimmer to fight through opposing teams screens.
Somewhat agree
But our bigs dont defend the pick-n-roll at all, they just slide off and leave the guard to fight through instead of flashing out to double the guard and not give him a passing lane.
Look at the Bobcats or the Pistons
Knight is starting now and sure hes not consistent but he sure as hell is developing into an NBA player much faster because of it. Same goes with Kemba. Like it or not we arent winning or playing consistent as of now. This isn’t a winning season again and its not going to be (mainly bcuz of the Maloofs not wanting to spend).
by yaboyrafa on Jan 24, 2012 9:28 PM PST reply actions 1 recs
Knight has the lowest PER of any rookie playing a half game or more per night
So if he is “developing,” it is not readily apparent in the numbers. And I don’t care if this team is 0-50 – Jimmer has to earn his minutes. His floor time in the NBA is not a birthright.
I like the kid, and he’s (finally!) starting to play a little better, but the Jimmer jock riding is off the hook.

I've always liked Jimmer
And don’t think it was a wasted draft pick, but preferential treatment concerning minutes will absolutely destroy any concept of team in the minds of the players sitting the bench because of Jimmer’s popularity.
Do I think more plays should have been run last night for Jimmer, yes. He was hot, almost everyone else was not. But rookies pick up water cups in training camp and wear pink backpacks to help them understand they may have been all-world in college but in the NBA you work your tail off or find yourself ‘developing’ in the D-League.
Deron Williams didnt like Sloan his rookie year because he didnt start him. That next off season D-Will goes down and plays against Jason Terry and other Mavs (Williams is from Dallas) all summer. Works his tail off. Ends up starting and becoming one of the best PGs in the league. I say Sloan’s refusal to hand the rookie the reins helped motivate Deron.

I understand all that rookie stuff and so on but at the end of the day the guys that give us the best chance to win have to play
I could give a shit if he starts or not but he does need more minutes. His defense certainly needs help but he does seem like a “smart” defender who takes good angles and understands team defense but it gets exposed if everybody on the floor is not on the same page. In terms off all the Jimmer Jockey bullshit, many of them bring up good points but it can wear on you when it is simply blind homerisim…but whatever. The kid has been improving drastically and the only stupid Jimmer decision lately is the shit bounce pass to Cuz in the high post the other night. Just watchin the flow of the game when he is in there you can see his reputation and defenses FLY to him which can only help. Also, I haven’t seen any Salmons, Outlaw tight stupid shots from him..although I have seen them from DG, TE and IT. Bottom line….even 1/3 of the way thru his rookie season with no training camp/summer league playing for the most dysfuntional team in the NBA he is now showing major improvements in scoring and decision making. His ceiling is considerably higher than IT and MT….quicker he gets to it…the quicker we are better. Praise Allah! (stole that from Mike Tyson)

yeah, they play with him in practice so they know what the fans don’t know. When he’s earned his minutes in practice smart will play him. college record means nothing in the nba ,it’s a fresh start against a much more distilled level of competition.

As a Jimmer fan I think
its important that he earns his minutes instead of special treatment which is actually better for him. He has to be mentally prepared to do so, rushing it would only hurt his growth and the team. As for all the hardcore Jimmer fans I sometimes cringe at stuff thats said and sympathize with the logical team fans. I get embarassed sometimes and I ask myself WWJD (what would jimmer do) and I forgive.
