Shawn Marion anyone?
So, we all know Cuban wants to go after Howard and Williams in the offseason. In order to do so, he has to cut some salaries off the books, and Shawn Marion is a likely candidate. Seeing as Marion is having a pretty good year (with 2 additional years on his contract) and seeing as the Kings are desperate for a 3/rebounding stretch 4, wouldn't Shawn Marion be a fantastic pickup? In my opinion, it wouldn't take much to get him, maybe just a second round pick since the Mavs want to dump salary. What are your thoughts?

Can’t see who he helps the Kings, just another guy who needs someone to pass him the ball in his spots to score. Aren’t there rumours he was a not the best locker room guy either, was jealous of Amare and Nash in Phx
He's a system player and we don't have the system to get the most out of him
although I do think he can still produce for a few more years
He's definitely better than anything we have right now
Not sure they would give him up until the end of the season though, if even then, and we might have more options by that time.
It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
I'm not sure he helps you enough to justify taking on his salary.
He’s owed 7$ million this year, 8$ millions next year, and 9$ million the final year. That’s a lot of money to tie up in a 33 year old who isn’t much better than John Salmons.
you had me until that last subordinate clause

Rec'd for ability to understand sentence structure. I never was able to get my head around that stuff.

Actually, I think I'd rather have Odom
He’s a little younger and taller. He has 2 years left on his contract worth $17M compared to Marion’s $25M. Odom has started 3 games in Dallas, where he’d start every game here as a 3 or a 4. And, his wife would be closer to her family. And, Kim might even come to some Kings games.

My concern is having Khloe and Adrienne Maloof in the building at the same time.
Having 17,000 attendees, and tens of thousands more at home be struck gratefully blind just seems like a bad idea.
Love to have Odom, though.

I would actually be in favor of it...
That is of course if it was just for a second round pick and essentially a salary dump as you estimate.
Bottom line is right now they cannot convince FA’s to come here since its a bad team so they have to look at trades. When was the last time you saw a big FA go to a bad team (especially a small market?) Washington, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Minnesota, etc. havent exactly been raking in the big talent.
Nobody is happy with Salmons well if you bring in Marion and he works out then you can amnesty Salmons and basically only lose a mil or so on Marion. Marion plays defense, at this point that is good enough for me.
I think realistically if you want guys via trade you are going to have to look at salary dumps (Dallas is one rumored to want to clear more cap for instance but I dont see it unless they get someone back who can keep them competitive this year too), and overloaded depth situations (Utah’s bigs, Clippers PGs, are two I always think of.)
The problem is they need a no doubt starter, not possible starters. So you almost have to shoot for the moon you have a bunch of borderline guys in Salmons, JT, Hickson, Hayes, Thornton, who you can argue as possible starters on bad teams but they need more TRUE no doubt starters so these other guys can become the role players they more likely are.
My thinking is some guys that maybe have big contracts on teams facing extensions or big FA plans will be the most likely options, at least in terms of obvious upgrades. The Josh Smith’s, Al Jefferson’s, Gerald Wallace, Shawn Marion’s, etc seem they would be most easily attainable.
It's probably easier to get Batum than Wallace.
Portland seems to prefer Wallace for some reason & has pissed off Batum b/c of that.
No Need Unless
We don’t have a room for Marion as of this moment. would rather have a Josh Smith on our team or Gerald Wallace type of player. Stay away from the Matrix

Been a huge fan of josh smith, would love him
And Iggy too

No.
We’re in rebuilding mode and Marion will pout. He’s not the future and will not help in grooming the future. Plus, I wouldn’t call him a stretch 4. Can he shoot the 3? Yes. But if that is one of your best 3 options on the floor, I can tell you already that you have a bad offense.
