Thomas on Jameer is OK on defense

But not as productive on offense.

We were switching very effectively at the end of the first half and that makes everybody, including Jimmer, look a lot better on D and it also gets us running on the offensive end.

Anderson was 5-16

so just about anyone on him is OK.

I think we have to play the people WE want to play in crunch time and make other teams adjust to us, not the other way around. I thought we did a good job of that in the Bucks game. Not so much at the end tonight.

Dude. You clearly don't like Evans, but your statements make no sense.

Evans just shot 10-16, 8-10 from the line. And had 28-4-8 with 2 steals and a block. 2/1 assist to turnover. He also had the hockey assist on Thornton’s big three when he drove and the Magic doubled.

If you are going to crucify Evans because he was caught in the corner after a two man game with Cousins and no one moving off the ball, then I seriously question how much you know about basketball.

Fair criticism of a player is one thing, but taking thinly veiled shots at Evans after that performance sounds petty and tone deaf.

Salmons has been pretty bad, though every once in a while he’ll give you something. Garcia is what he is, I don’t think he’s that bad, I like him, he’s a good role player. And Greene is a decent defender, but sometimes lacks knowledge of situations, which is why he makes mistakes or takes early 3’s, but he is doing a better job at just taking open shots

I'm not depressed about any of them.

Neither Garcia nor Donte have played too much. But, what little play they have had hasn’t been too inspiring. They haven’t come into a game hit some threes and gotten the team going.

As far a Salmons, he’s frustrating, because he can play really well and be a real factor, but other than a few good plays here and there, he has been more of a let-down. I think it is risky to bring a player back onto a team when you have traded him away.

I missed the first game, so I missed that.

Certainly know he is capable of that, as that has been his trademark. That has also been Greene’s, but he just hasn’t had that much play, so I guess that can be a factor for him.

Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."

Garcia's first game was the 4th game of the season I believe

He came in and hit 2 threes. He’s been invisible since.

Donte’s inconsistency hasn’t changed

Yeah Salmons is clearly better than those three

Too much inconsistency and average-to-below average D there

Oops forgot about him, which should tell you something

When we signed him, I hoped he would be able to come in and help with some scoring and shooting; he hasn’t done either, I’m still hoping he could get his shot back. What’s surprised me is that his D hasn’t been as bad as I thought, and his rebounding is decent. So basically Salmons>Garica=Outlaw=Greene>Honeycutt, as of right now.

Smart seems like such a visual thinker to me.

When he describes the situation, he is visualizing the whole floor and seeing what needs to be done. I have a lot of hope that he is going to make some significant changes for the team.

reke

I’m really tired of watching tyreke dribble down the court and jack shots all the time without passing especially when they are garbage shots.its really getting old. What some don’t realize is that these games are based on Thornton and tyreke being hot. If they are on kings win if they are off kings lose. They really need to learn to pass to wide open players instead of them always wanting to be the ones to shine in the end.Its selfish ball plain and simple

Strange how a team depends on its best players playing good to win right?

Really hard to pass the ball to teammates who don’t move much off-the-ball and who miss open shots when they do get passes

but great teams learn to trust in their role players

when their stars are off. Yes I saw glimpses of great assists but I still saw a player that would rather shoot than distribute the ball right away. To me that is not a true pg

by mmarcum on Jan 8, 2012 6:16 PM PST up reply actions

True PG's don't always equal winning teams

Great teams trust their role players, but when they stand around and miss open shots, passing doesn’t make anything better

you have a good point and I didn't realize that rekes assist stats were so high tonight.

I guess the bad shots he chose really stood out to me.But that is encouraging if he really got 8 assists.

by mmarcum on Jan 8, 2012 6:21 PM PST up reply actions

He could've had more too but missing open shots, or teammates getting fouled don't count

He is passing more and trying to move the ball, but there are times we need him to score, and sometimes he tries too hard to get into the paint to get a shot. His misses were magnified because it was crunch time, but he really didn’t have too many better options at that time

His shot is still so bad! Fades away on everything and is always short. WTF is he doing during the offseason because it can’t be practicing on his jumper…

by Since'89 on Jan 8, 2012 6:09 PM PST up reply actions

He's probably been practicing the set jump shot which looks alot smoother this year

The off-the-dribble shot still looks bad most of the time.

OMFG

The guy has 28pts & 8ast & it’s still not good enough. Here’s a freakin news flash: Tyreke is not Steve Nash & will never be Steve Nash get over it already.

Tyreke averaging 8 assists wouldn't be enough for them

I think they want him to be in-his-prime Steve Nash AND in-his-prime Michael Jordan

because young Nash didn’t have the dazzling assist numbers, & young Jordan had no legit mid-range game (it was something that arrived in the 90s).

This.

Yep -

This would be a good night for the Tyreke bashers to take a break. He was the main reason that the Kings stayed in the game tonight.

Don’t worry, ye of Tyreke vitriol. He will give you other chances to spew. But for tonight, such comments just make a person look that of a troll.

Steve Nash wasn't even Steve Nash until he was put in D'antoni's system

He averaged 6.75 assists in his 6 seasons in Dallas. Pretty damn good but mediocre to 11 assists he averaged in his 7 seasons in Phoenix.

Good call mmarcum

Tyreke’s 62% FG and 80% FT, with 8 assists was the dagger to the Kings’ hopes for success. He should have got the ball to Jimmer or Isiaah more, I am sure.

by WebberDynasty on Jan 8, 2012 6:15 PM PST up reply actions

I think good effort from this team.

I missed the game, but I read the play-by-play in the 4th Q.

Got killed by the dagger 3pters in the end, we draw close/tie/ahead and Bam! If we had an answer of our own, we would have won, sure of it.

Salmons, as much as I’m not a fan, seems to be playing his role better. Maybe not on individual sets, or on offense, but he’s getting steals and stuff, and his +/- is positive, so must be doing something right.

This.

by elfboy_ on Jan 8, 2012 6:11 PM PST reply actions

Salmons played half-way decent in this game

We lost because our defensive rotations were bad and too much 1-on-1 in the end after ORL tightened up the D

Possible regression to 1-on-1

because we were turning the ball over when ORL tightened up and we couldn’t get open, or because the players were tired and stopped moving?

This.

by elfboy_ on Jan 8, 2012 6:20 PM PST up reply actions

A little of both

When we tried some stuff, it was usually a two man game with Reke and Cousins with everyone else standing on the opposite end

I think Reke is really hitting his stride in the past games

Except the Denver/Memphis games, he is starting to dominate and gain confidence in what he can do. 8 assists in this one, 10 rebounds in the last game, he is looking like his old self again. I think its just a combination of clutch plays from Orlando and bad breaks from us that did us in this game. But I’m happy with this result. If you look at our stats we have a pretty solid team when everyone’s clicking. Just imagine if we made some of those three’s.

by tidge18 on Jan 8, 2012 7:11 PM PST reply actions

Evans is very talented. I think he would be even better for the team if they played him at small forward.

by ExPFCWintergreen on Jan 8, 2012 7:23 PM PST reply actions   1 recs

Nah.

He’s best at his position now, honestly. IF we had a pure PG, I’d agree, but for now, Salmon’s is better suited for the position, on this team.

While Tyreke could play SF, his size advantage would lost, and in fact, often he’d be smaller than his opponent by an inch or two and twenty pounds. He would be quicker in most cases, but not all. On top of that, a SF is expected to have a minor amount of low post talent, and Reke has non that I’ve noted.
