Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Kings were led by DeMarcus Cousins' 21 points and 9 rebounds

The Sacramento Kings kicked off the preseason with a 102-96 win over the visiting Phoenix Suns. The Kings were led by center DeMarcus Cousins, who had 21 points and 9 rebounds in 26 minutes of game time. Tyreke Evans, who started at the small forward spot, added 9 points and 7 rebounds in 24 minutes.

Cousins and Evans were joined in the starting line-up by Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton, and Jason Thompson. Although this was a common starting line-up late last season, it will likely be just one of many combinations coach Keith Smart will use throughout the preseason as he determines rotations.

Second-year guard Jimmer Fredette was the first sub off the bench, replacing Isaiah Thomas. New additions James Johnson and Thomas Robinson also saw plenty of action. Johnson played 19 minutes, contributing 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal. Robinson saw extended playing time, with a team-high 29 minutes. Robinson ended the game with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

All of Sacramento's regular rotation players from last season saw game time except for Travis Outlaw. New addition Aaron Brooks played on 7 minutes.

Of the Kings training camp players attempting to make the squad, Tony Mitchell played 5 minutes, while Willie Reed played 2. Neither player took a shot.

As this game was not televised, we'd love to hear from those of you who made it out to the game. Please share your impressions in the comments.

The Kings next preseason game is Monday, October 15th, against Portland.
