Final Score: Kings Fall to Bulls 93-87

Jonathan Daniel

The Sacramento Kings opened up the 2012-13 season with a loss to Chicago. The Kings tried to comeback from a 14 point 3rd quarter deficit, but missed a lot of opportunities to do so down the stretch. The Bulls were led by a fantastic effort from starting center Joakim Noah, who scored 23 points to go with 10 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Rip Hamilton chipped in 19 points and Carlos Boozer scored 18 points with 8 rebounds.

The Kings were led in scoring by Tyreke Evans' 21 points, and newly minted sixth man Marcus Thornton added 15 off the bench. Franchise centerpiece DeMarcus Cousins played just 25 minutes due to foul trouble, and had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks, but also a whopping 7 turnovers. Turnovers were a huge reason the Kings lost the game, as they allowed 25 points off 21 team turnovers. While they forced the Bulls to commit 18 turnovers of their own, they only managed to score 13 points off those turnovers.

Keith Smart made his starting lineup official tonight, featuring Isaiah Thomas, Tyreke Evans, James Johnson, Jason Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins. Newcomer James Johnson had a very rough night against his former team, scoring just 2 points on 1-8 from the field along with 4 turnovers. He did manage 3 steals though.

Rookie Thomas Robinson also had a rough NBA debut, scoring 3 points on 1-5 from the field, with 3 rebounds, a steal and 3 turnovers in 22 minutes of action off the bench.

A longer recap will be coming shortly. Feel free to use this as the Post-Game Panic Thread.
