Ed Szczepanski-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Thomas Robinson has been playing at small forward in some scrimmages. Should we be worried?
Jason Thompson is done playing small forward. But Thomas Robinson? From Jason Jones at The Bee's Kings blog:
Don't rule out Thomas Robinson seeing time at small forward during the preseason. During one 5-on-5 session, Robinson was the small forward with Chuck Hayes and DeMarcus Cousins the other frontcourt players. Jimmer Fredette and Marcus Thornton were the other players on the squad. That squad beat a team of Isaiah Thomas, John Salmons, Willie Reed, Francisco Garcia and Cyril Awere. The final score was 7-2.
Robinson was also at small forward during the session open to the media Tuesday in Sacramento.
Quickness and athleticism might allow T-Rob to get away with some small forward minutes. I don't think ball-handling or shooting will. If you remember, quickness was Jason Thompson's issue at small forward. At least with the line-up mentioned here, you have two shooters in the backcourt.
Certainly, if T-Rob could ably pick up some minutes at SF, that would help -- the position is still the Kings' worst. But that'd also mean more Chuck Hayes, so he really needs to have bounced back into form.
