I, like many of you, have gotten to the point where I'm ready to blow everything up. Fire Petrie, fire Smart, trade Evans, DMC, Thornton, etc. The only guys who should stay are IT, Jimmer, Robinson, and JT. I love Cousins and Tyreke but at this point I don't think we're ever going to win with them. The rebuild was a failure and it's time to admit that. Stockpile some lottery picks, start over with a new rookies (Something like Nerlens Noel, Poythress, and Michael Carter-Williams?) and go from there.
In my opinion the key to this is finding the right coach. Knowing the Maloofs won't pay top dollar for any highly regarded coach out there and with the fact that the roster will be full of young players, the best option would seem to be a young, top assistant who comes from a winning team and has learned how to run an effective offensive system. The next Tom Thibodeau would be ideal. My question is who would be some of these guys?
I guess the next important thing would be hiring a young, smart GM who would be completely motivated to take on the Kings as his own project and mold them over he wants. So a discussion could be started on who those candidates could be as well.
The main roadblock in this plan would be no one wanting to work for such a train wreck of a team led by the worst owners in the sport. I would just hope that a top, young assistant would be tempted to take the opportunity to take over a team that has a new, freshly motivated GM and young players who have never been coached in the NBA before and are therefore willing to listen.
I can dream.
