Huge Jimmer supporter here. Once he was drafted to the Kings, I told everyone that I was now a Kings fan. I am also a huge fan of basketball, and follow several teams and players in the league. Jimmer is a talent, and I was really disappointed last year that he wasn't able to translate his game to the pro's, I still watched every King game last year, and picked up some favorite players, and players that I can't stand on the Kings. I like IT, great hustle, he like many other players will at times freeze Jimmer out, last year I think it was intentional (e.g. Jimmer had a lot of fans and hoopla, and hadn't earned it yet) this year I think it is more about lack of basketball skill or just mental mistakes. I mean they find him enough, just about as much as they find anyone, and IT figured out that if he finds Jimmer his assists are going up, so it's a win-win and they have developed much better chemistry together on the floor finding each other, and the bigs (that has been a very successful line up recently). Also Jimmer really worked on his game over the summer, and with the floater, slimming down so he’s faster, and improved handles he is playing at a really high level. Truly last night I saw the type of player Jimmer can be, and it was Steph Curry, lights out scorer, so-so defender, and a good floor general. If we want Jimmer to develop into that, (Which I think is very possible) then he needs more playing time. Now this team has many issues, Tyreke and where to play him, too many guards (none of them are bad mind you, but all of them, including Jimmer, are shoot first guards more than set up men, however watch the league, this is where the point guard position has devolved, with the hand check foul rules, a scoring PG is a must, that being said, IT, Jimmer, and Tyreke are more willing passers as one of their weapons than AB and MT). The problem is, Aaron Brooks hasn't been as consistent as Jimmer or IT. He also doesn't seem to have great court vision, IT and Jimmer both see other men much better, and dial their own number at least 2nd, instead of 1st like AB. Now AB had a great game last night and he seems super likable. His assists where less about setting up team mates and more about getting stuck without a shot, and finding an open man. While IT, and Jimmer's assists, really looked like they were more reactive, or designed as one of the possibilities in a nuanced offense. By the way, I absolutely LOVE how well Jason Thompson plays, I would love to see him on the court with Jimmer more, JT moves without the ball, rolls off of screens and finishes like a pro, he has one of the highest BBIQ’s on the team. DMC is a great talent, but he forces so much, and needs to show hustle to get back, also offensively if he could just learn some post moves, wow, that would be nice to see, he would be a monster, surprisingly DMC has some great guard like skills, but he should practice his back to the basket moves more and more, if he had a dream shake or some of the moves that JT shows off, he would be an offensive juggernaut. So to the point, something is going on, I am not sure if it is racism, but someone needs to point out to smart that he should give Jimmer a 3 game tryout with more minutes, see how it pans out. When someone puts up the numbers per minute that Jimmer is putting up, you need to do that experiment. However, it has to be with the right people. Jimmer did not do well in the 4th with AB and Thornton, if you look at his usage he had low usage numbers, and didn’t see the ball much. Now it didn’t help that he missed his two wide open shots, but during that stint Jimmer barely saw the ball, and was being used more of a decoy for spacing. Playing him with Tyreke, or Salmons is a good bet, give him JT to play with or IT for spacing (they both can hit the three, and look for each other and to run an offense. Marcus Thornton, is a scorer, and when he gets hot you have to ride him, I couldn't believe coach smart set him after he was rolling last night, terrible. He put him back in, but that messes with a guy’s mojo, and it is moves like that that make me thing that Coach Smart isn’t racist just clueless, he seems to pull people when they are hot, and put in cold players, he just doesn’t seem to understand basic rhythm of the game, and when people are cold he leaves them out for too long. Last night was an incredibly fun game to watch, and as a basketball purist Steph Curry was just so amazing, I was stunned with his shot making, the way he played. AB was hot, so let him stay in, one of the best games I have seen from him, but he still doesn't initiate a nuanced offense, however as a guard off the bench (a role he has had in the past and suits him) when a team needs some pure scoring he serves a good purpose, when he is making shots. Very similar to Marcus Thornton actually, and I don't want MT running our offense either!! Tyreke, actually does a good job of running the offense, and I think he needs to be back at 1 or 2 for good, the SF experiment failed. It just sucks, I see this transcendent talent in Jimmer, putting up transcendent numbers, and it doesn't seem to meet with any increased opportunity. I hear other people, not just Jimmer Jocks who are calling for more time, and yet the coach won't let the experiment happen. That's why I'm hoping for a trade, move Jimmer, or carve out a spot for him, because giving him small minutes over and over again, and not having a specific plan for him in your roster is like taking a knife to a gun fight. It is easy to put race as the factor, because well Jimmer doesn't look like the rest of them, I'm not sure if that is really what it is, actually it looks like Jimmer won over his teammates, they all talk to him, and seem to have a good rapport now (last year not so much). Still, Smart is not making the obvious choice, and that means there is something that is not based on results going on, whether that is the Magoofs wanting a poor attendance and win record so that they can get out of SacTown, or protection of Jimmer so his numbers look good so he is good trade bait (let's face it, in increased minutes Jimmer could fall on his face, it's possible). Smart's belief in AB and that he will come along (AB has done well in the past and has been slumping so maybe smart is waiting for him to come out of the slump, and just believing in him). Or there is the race thing. I don't know what it is, but overall it is definitely not stat related, it is not merit driven, because over the course of this year, Jimmer has performed whenever his number has been called. I hate inequality, I hate cronyism (the good old boys network where you get jobs due to who you know, and who your friends with, not on your performance), something is rotten here when a player produces and doesn’t see any increased time, it makes me angry, and makes me question the integrity of Coach Smart. I want him to prove me wrong, I want him to try the experiment.
So I am pleading with you coach, just do the experiment, for three nights give Jimmer a chance at more minutes with a lineup that makes sense for his skill-set. See what happens. If he fails, put him back to smaller minutes, if you guys win and he succeeds stick with it!!. FreeJimmer!! Not from Sacramento, but from the bench!!!
And while you’re at it, would you please give your rookie consistent burn? T-Rob has shown he can impact the game (not offensively but defensively and through energy and hustle). Could you please give him consistent minutes, dude could be a MAJOR talent.
Also, one more thing, I don’t think anyone is racist, I think it is offensive to claim it, is it possible yes but truly, I think it is unlikely, let’s use occams razor, there are other factors to consider outside of race.
