A Micromoment in Time

It was in the fourth quarter, down to the final seconds of the game, with the Sacramento Kings leading the Oklahoma City Thunder by two points, when Tyreke Evans ran across the court to his teammate DeMarcus Cousins to create this micromoment in time. This moment, which expresses so much, which arouses feelings in the people who look at it, tells a story.
It all happened so quickly, Tyreke seeking out Cousins. Had it not been for the camera which captured the moment, it might have gone by virtually unnoticed, unwitnessed even by those in attendance. In this brief snapshot, so much is expressed between these two men, in a time of emotional excitement and tension in an arena filled with charged electrical energy with screaming fans cheering on a team on the verge of victory.
We cannot escape the love and respect that is expressed between these two teammates, who are sharing an emotional peak experience together. Do I dare say tenderness? Who cannot feel emotion when looking at this photo? It tugs at your heart. It is a step along a path, a journey, which we are witness to. A burgeoning relationship between two young men, who were coached by Coach Calipari at their respective colleges of Memphis and Kentucky. As fans, we are outsiders, only getting glimpses into the lives of our players. We are voyeurs, wanting to be a part of the whole experience. Players develop their own bond with each other. They have to get along with each other, weather the disappointments of defeat and share the glory of victory. They have to work together to be successful. They have to grow together as a unit; be strong, be vulnerable, and be open to the moment. They shared a bit of themselves, in the emotion of the moment, captured for a micromoment in time.

Update - Video of game added:Update: I have added the video of the Kings and Thunder with a breakdown of events which occurred immediately before the micromoment: * 49.4 Seconds - Russell Westbrook steps out-of-bounds for a turnover * 39.2 Seconds - Tyreke drives down center of paint, gets fouled, gets FTs * 32.5 Seconds - Durant launches 3-point attempt, with Tyreke defending him * 32.2 Seconds - Shot misses * 31.1 Seconds - Cousins looking at ball at rim moving toward it * 30.6 Seconds - Westbrook jumps trying to get rebound * 28.1 Seconds - Cousins gets possession of rebound
* 27.4 Seconds - Westbrook comes up behind Cousins to foul him Clock is stopped * 24.4 Seconds - Tyreke witnesses this and immediately runs toward Cousins * 24.4 Seconds - Tyreke reaches his teammate to connect with him
Amazing: It all happened so quickly, one can only ponder what was going through Tyreke's mind and what was going through Cousin's in the moment.

I actually thought Evans was over there to keep Cousins from ripping Westbrook's head off, but in any case, it was a great catch by Evans, and resulted in the great photo.

I thought the same, but it still seemed like a bonding moment for these two young stars
Like Slam, I felt a outreach on Tyreke’s part to his teammate who had been abused the entire game, without getting the respect of the refs. And, he rushed to the aid of his friend, and helped him control the devil inside.
What’s really important to me about that play, is that Westbrook was the one that really lost his temper. They were only down my one possession, and had enough time on the clock to get the ball back if they could come up with a stop. By losing his cool, and fouling Cuz, Westbrook game the Kings the game. And, Cuz coolly went up and buried the FT’s.
Young players playing like vets, can there be anything better.

it has gotten a lot more enjoyable hasn't it?
Not just winning games but just competing and actually seeing communication. Granted, not always perfect and there are lapses every single game but it’s been a breadth of fresh air.

I think Reke has really stepped up his role as the leader
I saw one post game interview with Reke, where he brings up Donte, and how he was feeling down about the Minnesota shot. And Reke starts talking about how good Donte can be, and he doesn’t realize that when he puts it all together he can be great.
I dunno, it was really nice to hear Reke singling out Donte to give him props after that game. I want to hear more of it. A large reason why I loved the glory day Kings was because it was apparent that they all genuinely liked each other and wanted each other to succeed. Their brotherhood on and off the court was just refreshing to see, and I hope that these little things are glimmers of what’s to come.

Probably preaching to the choir here
But donte is really a great teammate. It is good to see him contribute to a big win like this. I have to admit I was not especially confident in his FT stroke. Unless I’m mistaken he also played some outstanding d on durant. And it keeps outlaw in sweats.

I love Donte!
I love his energy and his passion for the team and the city. He’s such a great ambassador for the team to the fans and I really appreciate all the effort he does to reach out to us. I will be thoroughly disappointed if he is not a King next season.
Until recently, before Fish started playing better, I thought the 3 spot was up for grabs and was frustrated at the lack of PT that Donte was getting considering, no one seemed to be having any success in that position. I’m very excited for him now that Keith Smart has given him the role of defender and is actually leaving him in the last minutes of the game, which I see as such a big positive for Donte.
I just liked Reke calling Donte out because it’s what the leader of the team should be doing. And I appreciate that even though Donte wasn’t the highest scorer of the night, Reke chooses to give him props with his defense on KD which I thought was great.

Agreed 100%
My angle at the game was such that it appeared that Cuz had some unfinished business. I had already uttered “don’t get a ‘T’” by the time Evans got there. But if this means that these guys are learning to have each other’s backs, beautiful.
Whatever the case, it does not discount SD’s post – well done and rec’d, Dunk.

I missed the nuances of this watching the game. That may very well have been what was happening. I wanted to replay it at home but my recording stopped at the last two minutes of the game.
I heard various interpretations of what led up to this brief encounter. I wish someone would post the last two minutes of the game. I would really like to see what precipitated this.
Does anyone lip read? What was Cuz saying to Reke? Anyone know?
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Im on my phone, so i cant search for it...
But someone posted the last several minutes on YouTube. I was looking for the entire game, and found it by using Google’s video search. Narrow your options on the left side of the screen and search for videos ranging from 4-20 minutes using “kings thunder” as your search. That should do it.
Great read, by the way!

Thanks, I looked for it before posting this, but couldn't find one.

I think I found the one you are talking about.
Unfortunately, it begins with 21 seconds remaining in the game, while the the micromoment happened with 27.4 seconds remaining. Still nice to see the finish again, so I appreciate that:)

Rec'd...life is largely defined by such "micromoments" in time.

great moment
just one thing. Evans and Cousins didn’t go to the same college they just had the same coach. Evans went to Memphis and Cousins when to Kentucky after Callapari left Memphis.
Oh my bad. Thanks for the correction. My confusion because they were both coached by Calipari.

my fave thing
about the glory days was the closeness of the team. I rmr Bobby Jackson’s mother died (I think it was his mom) the whole team was at the funeral. I believe coach smart is doing exactly what we needed from a coach. get them to trust each other, cohesive team play is what follows.

This post definitely came from a female, lol.
Rec’d. I liked the “moment in time” in particular because for so long I saw lack of chemistry between our two best players. Its nice to see it start to develop.
Smart Era, y'all.
My new background picture
This shot has just becomne my new background. It beat out the graphic from the first game of the season t-shirt with Tyreke and Kobe. That’s some doing! The picture speaks a million words about Tyreke, Cuz, and Keith Smart.

Really captured a sweet moment in time that I didn't notice. Well done Slamdunk, had to rec it
Besides this particular post I have just really enjoyed your comments in the post threads and particularly in the game threads this season. It’s been a little chaotic this season here on StR with a lot of new members kind of working out what that means and not always figuring it out. I have appreciated your positive tone, your willingness to ask questions when you don’t know something and your willingness to call BS when all the young dudes get a little excited. Well done.

I added an update in the body of the post.
I posted a video of the game and a breakdown of what happened in the seconds before the brief encounter. Thank you Olde Greg for steering me to it.
Still isn’t clear what was going through Tyreke’s head when rushed over to Cousins. Darn, I missed that class in mind-reading. I was surprised to see all that went on in that one second at the 27.4 mark.

Perversely
It ever so slightly reminds me of Ron Artest having Kevin Martin’s back (at 2:30 mark) when Matt Harpring lowered the boom on Kevin a few years ago. Except that Ron was the crazy one in that pairing.
Tyreke probably saved Cousins from going ballistic on Westbrook. Good thing, too.
"His D was a difference at the end."
Ah you remember that. This was another sweet moment.

I remember there was a dramatic moment between Reke and Beno at a Knicks game, but I couldn’t find it.
