All of this truly boggles the mind
That a number of city councilmembers would be so opposed to even learning more about the potential parking lease is scary. There is no reason to NOT move forward with this, considering it isn’t even the vote on whether or not to accept it and move forward. The final vote? Sure, there will be some who don’t agree with it. But these preliminary votes should be no-brainers. I hope some of those who inexplicably voted in favor of a public vote will realize that this is more preliminary information and support it.
Either way, I know those of you who attend the meeting tomorrow will make us all proud. Wish I could make it, but just isn’t an option when school is in session.

Sacramento Kings - helping feed NBA fans across the country since 2011

It’s nasty over there

Yeah...
Why did I do that to myself.
Here is AEG, the NBA, and other private investors ready to put MILLIONS into a failing Sacramento economy and people are quibbling over the money to run the RFP without a public vote?!
Avoid that cesspool!!

Anyone who gets discouraged by the Sacbee comment threads
Should realize that a significant fraction of the posters are disgruntled ex-Sacramentans (or ex-Californians in general) who now are quite bitter towards the whole region. Many of these folks would like nothing more than a complete implosion of our economy, to prove that “they weren’t alone”. Many of these same folks cloak their intentions in the red herrings of the homeless, the arts and public education (with respect to the Railyards/ESC issue).
To use the term “troll” in this context is being very, very generous.

Don't forget, R.J. These people are potential voters.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
I know, but there is nothing we can possibly do to change their point of view.
It is called Schadenfreude.

The comments in the Sacramento Bee explain why some members of the council, who for
one reason or another, want the arena effort to fail, want this measure to go public. They know it will probably fail if it comes to a public vote because of people like these.
As SharkKings says, “It’s nasty over there.”
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Of course they do
If it goes to a public vote it’s a win-win for them. They win in that they get their wish that it doesn’t happen, AND they win in that they no longer have to shoulder the blame from most supporters if it does fail the vote. They can just point over to the populace and say, “see it wasn’t I who killed the arena, it was your fellow citizens.”

Yes, exactly.
They won’t have to take the blame.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
No it isn't.
If it goes to a public vote and it fails, council members will just say, “Hey, it wasn’t me. The voters voted it down.”
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
sorry, I thought athletics68 was referring to the commentors in the Bee with his comment, not the council members
sorry about that.
The one thing I’d keep in my mind though is that the four who voted for it to go to a vote don’t all have the same reasons for their votes. It’s not just “Hey it wasn’t me” but people in their district might actually want to vote so it could also be seen as “Hey I tried to get you the vote, didn’t work out.”

That's cool.
I realize each council member may have a different situation in terms of representing people in their district, although I am unfamiliar with each situation. In the end though, I would hope they would have the cojones to do what their conscience tells them to do rather than hiding behind a public ballot.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
exactly. They view this as the ultimate CYA action.

I'll admit, I've been reading most of their posts today
It seems like “Robert_in_Sacramento” is one of the few pro-arena posters who is willing to try to inform these people. I’ve enjoyed seeing him throw out facts to back up his opinion and the anti-arena group just bashes him without any real reason to support their opinion. At some points it looks like he is talking to himself since a lot of comments are being removed (I’m guessing due to bashing Robert without any facts or reason). Most anti-arena people end up admitting they are against the arena just because they don’t like KJ.

I read a few of them and came away with the same impression.
Robert will probably get discouraged from the constant bashing.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
I say, let it go to a vote!
I along with the thousands of others that normally don’t go out and vote will rise to the occasion to get this shit done! BRING THE VOTE ON MOTHER FU****S!!!!!!!!!!
The vote will kill the arena
Our deadline is March 1st. The earliest vote is June. If we tell the NBA to get back to us in June after the vote, the Kings will already be long gone. This has to get done now without a public vote.

Adding...if it were to come to a vote and the Maloofs and NBA miraculously waited for the outcome...
which I strongly doubt, as Stern was pretty clear on this point.
I wouldn’t bet money on it winning. Not with the climate of certain sectors of Sacramento. The people who comment on the Sacramento Bee will give you a sample of the vitriol, which exists out there.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Its too bad we have to be afraid of public vote...
Imagine how easy this would be if the general consensus of voters were Pro ESC.. We wouldn’t have to be worried about it going to vote.. But alas that’s not the case.
Question, how much do our chances go up if the 14th and the first of march go our way?
We can't win at home. We can't win on the road. I just can't figure out where else to play!

The general consensus of voters is pro-ESC
They are just anti-tax increase, and they don’t want to be bothered with the “details” of the various proposals as they fear it will result in an impact on their wallets.
If someone like Burkle came in and said that he wanted to build an arena in the Railyards with cash, there would be a ticker-tape parade for him down K Street. I think that most folks are progressive around here, they are just skeptical about the feasibility of said progress.

If one of the next two votes fails, it's over.
We technically don’t know the odds if they pass. Many others think it would be about 95% while I know I personally think there will still be some things to be figured out (and a 2 month extension from the NBA)
