No Jimmer in the 3 point contest?!?!
This is complete crap. The three point contestants look really boring this year. I like Anderson and Love, and Morrow is definitely deserving, but why is Chalmers (who has a high percentage because he is left open all game) and Joe Johnson in the 3 point contests? They are not pure shooters. Give me the pure shooters (the Reggies, the Ray Allens, Jimmer freakin Fredette). Sorry for my ranting, and for the terrible writing, I just think its garbage when the league picks non-pure shooters for a contest that is supposed to show the best shooters in the league.

Sorry, Jimmer has not shown enough to even be considered for the shootout this season.
Hopefully for next season.

Jimmer Facts
Currently 49th in 3-point percentage, and 47th in 3-pointers made per game.
Next.

To be fair,
only 30 NBA players currently beat Fredette in both 3-pointers made per game and percentage.

All that is true
But the fact of the matter is that it’s a show. Just like the rest of the All-Star events. If it was only the top ten 3pt shooters, Joe Johnson and others wouldn’t be there. If Jimmer buzz was still hot, he would be there. But it has quieted down. I don’t think there has ever been a year where truely the best 3pt shooters are in the contest.

I agree with this
These events are about entertainment. Jimmer came into the league advertised as a guy who’s range began when he entered the gym.
I’d much rather see him (and I’m sure most others would as well) than some of the non-descript guys that will be in the competition.

And if he managed to achieve even top 20 numbers I think that a case could be made
But I don’t see how his participation could be justified. Yeah, it’s about entertainment. And right now there are fans of 29 other NBA teams that would see it as wholly unfair if Fredette were invited simply because of “Jimmermania.” I mean, if I’m a Nets fan and you choose not to invite Anthony Morrow but you invite Jimmer simply because of the fan following that he attained during his collegiate run? If the shoe’s on the other foot, wouldn’t that tick you off a little?

You really think Love is in there because he is a top 3pt shooter?
I say either make it the best 3pt shooters in the league, which I am fine with. Or call it the circus it really is and invite great three pt shooters that create a lot of buzz. If you can invite a guy because of what he did last year or over the course of his career or because he is a big name player, you can absolutely invite him because of what he did in college.
It’s all about the buzz, which is why the NBA is saying now that they are going to find a place for Lin. Come on section, you know nothing in the All-Star weekend is actually about the best players in the league.

I think that the only time that you mention Kevin Love and Jimmer Fredette in the same sentence
is when you say something like, “Man, Jimmer Fredette is no Kevin Love.”
Look, I’m not discounting that the NBA weekend is a circus. What I am saying is that Jimmer Fredette has done nothing – nothing! – to merit an invitation to all star weekend in any way, shape or form. Let the guy do something – anything! – at the professional level and then invite him to the circus.

I agree completely
But I will also say that Kevin Love has noting nothing to merit being in the 3pt shootout. So, yeah.
And referencing your comment below, I would like to see Jimmer invited to the 3pt shootout because he is shooting 45% from the 3 pt line.

Jimmer Fredette is no Chase Budinger, who btw will be in the Slam Dunk competition because he actually impacts the games unlike Jimmer.

So if you impact the game
You should be in the slam dunk competition. Okay, not sure what that has to do with anything, but point taken.

I don't think people are going to get too up in arms because Jimmer made the 3 point shooting contest instead of "their guy"
I mean, if I’m a Nets fan and you choose not to invite Anthony Morrow but you invite Jimmer simply because of the fan following that he attained during his collegiate run?
Even if it upset me in the slightest, I think I’d understand that it’s about entertainment. And if the league isn’t taking the list of three point shooters based on statistical criteria (such as shooting percentage based on a minimum number of attempts), then I’d accept that personalities and popularity would play a part.

And don't get me wrong
I’m not upset he’s not participating, I’d just rather see a guy who’s got his reputation for shooting the ball in the competition than some of these other guys.
No big deal, either way.

I agree 100% that it is no big deal
I’d just like to see him earn his way there as opposed to inviting him because he generated a following while at BYU.

What Section said.
Jimmer is in no way deserving of being in the 3 point shootout. At least when Peja made it he was kicking serious ass.
I’m impressed you managed to put Ray Allen and Jimmer in the same sentence. I’ll take Chalmers and Johnson in the shootout over Jimmer, a rookie who is 49th in 3 point %.

I dunno if anyone every really deserves being there
I guess past winners wanting to keep the crown but it’s kind of meaningless

Probably just a well for him.

Plus i think his 3 point release is a bit slower, but i may be off

He doesn't deserve to be in there
then again, most of the list doesn’t deserve to be in there. I figured the NBA would have used the three point contest to sneak Jimmer in to the weekend.

haha
next season When Jimmer explodes for an. avg. of 15 pts. 5 dimes…..
What a crappy event - Couldn't even include Steph Curry
He’s a young, big name 3 point shooter thats shooting over 40%.
Didn’t they used to have a few more players in the past (8-10)? 6 shooters seems pretty quick.
If you think Jimmer should be in the 3-point contest,
you’re the same as the people who would vote Jeremy Lin into the All-star game right now.

Yep
And Lin is going to be there anyway, in the slam dunk competition, no less. Which call’s your reasoning into question, Casey.

I wonder if the China would vote him in next year (assuming he keeps it up)
If they would vote in an injured Yao, why not Linsanity.

We will totally vote for Lin

But he’s going to have to work for the silverware vote
