Kings coach Smart has Cousins back on track

I'm more surprised
that this positive article about Cousins was written by someone other than a Kings writer.
Wonderful sympathetic article on Cousins.

Smart knows how to plant seeds. Hopefully, we will get to watch Cousins grow them for a long time.

35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.

This is why I LOVE Keith Smart as a coach & don’t buy into the “Jimmer-needs-to-be-traded” dilusion.
I am a BYU student so I have A LOT of followers that hate on Smart all the time for not playing Jimmer more, but I don’t buy into that line of thinking. Coach is right to focus on DMC and getting him to focus and be on-board. I think Jimmer’s two DNP-CD’s were a motivation for Jimmer, and his play has been more productive since that happened. (I do have concerns about the inconsistent rotations and the fact that Travis Outlaw gets on the floor, so everything is not perfect but it is certainly trending in the right direction. I don’t envy having to divvy up playing time between 4 guards and Jimmer has definitely been the fourth best guard on this team.)
Sorry, I didn’t mean to make that about Jimmer, I swear. I just get tired of hearing about it from irrational BYU people I know. Not ever Jimmer fan is as delusional as those that attack Jason Jones or Jon Santiago or James Ham on Twitter.
All that aside, I love the relationship between Coach Smart and DMC. There is a real connection there and we are seeing dividends paid with on-the-court production. I hope it continues to improve.

As a Jimmer fan you shouldn’t want Jimmer to get minutes just because he’s Jimmer. That isn’t really good for him & most of all for the team.
I feel like coach Smart will give him a fair shake as he sees fit. We all want Jimmer to have a great career. Especially coach Smart. He could use more weapons.

I don't think coach Smart is the best coach
But he might be the best coach for this team. Jerry Sloan wouldn’t be much different than Westphal. I don’t mean Westphal is as good an x & o’s guy as Sloan. Not even close but I think PW was trying to be a “my way or the highway” guy like Sloan. That just won’t work with this team.
Smart seems to be the total opposite. Donte was on the Carmichael Dave show saying Smart should have been his coach his whole 4 year career.
I don’t always agree with Smart’s coaching decisions but I feel like he deserves to grow with this team. I think he can & will get better as a coach as will the players.
