The committee made a presentation to the city council tonight
Here are a couple more quotes from McAllister:

Not yet
I’m assuming it will be covered tomorrow in plenty of outlets. Their presentation was awesome. 170,000 full time jobs from 2017-2027 just to start. And lasting effects that would benefit the whole region. Again, I’m sure more details from this report will be released soon.
And just to make sure, this wasn’t the city doing a presentation. It;s the committee that wants to bring the Winter Olympics here that prepared everything and presented their findings today. Coincidence? Not a chance ;)
Great timing for this thing to come out.

Again, wow
If this has been an under the table plan it would be unreal. When do the bids for that Olympics get selected?

I believe they mentioned next year
so if we have a concrete ESC plan, we have a chance.

Wow.
The benefits from an Olympics would justify the cities expenditure by itself

That is my thought as well.
Talk about return on investment.

Also with the village housing and hotels that would have to be built
We could prob get an all star game fairly easily

I was just going to ask
was the timing a stroke of luck or have you heard any rumors of somebody behind the scenes manipulating it.
Also, I heard there is an almost 80% chance of no rain next Tuesday for those King’s fans.
BTW How early Tuesday can we arrive for the meeting?
35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.
I honestly hadn't heard anything
but I also feel that this is not a coincidence. Best part is that it’s not made up or anything, it’s just perfect timing.

And about how early to arrive
I would honestly recommend 5pm. It’s an hour before the meeting but I have no idea how many people to expect. I’m sure it’ll fill up quick so I would show up early. That’s my plan anyway

Rumors
Only that random Jim Crandel report about another random group trying to build a huge arena for this.

Yeah
The story was for something like a 40-60K seat arena in Sacramento for the winter games.

Woooow.
Awesome. Everything helps.

Ohh and don't sleep on these news
getting us a swing vote or two. I can see McCarty, who will be running for assembly soon, and maybe Pannel getting on board with the new ESC.

I had forgotten McCarty's connection to Steinberg (and his future need of him)
I don’t know how, call me a Bozo. But if DS were still on the council he would be a solid yes vote.

I have seen DS at tons of games
Have to assume he is a huge fan

The olympics committee is drinking the Kevin Johnson kool aid.
Sacramento doesn’t need the olympics. If the magoofs want the olympics so much why don’t they pay for it. We need roads and policemen and homeless shelters!

Seriously I predicted this last spring. I feel good about myself.
I originally thought this was the secret investor which turned out to be Burkle. But I argued that we have just about all the infrastructure in place for the winter games except an arena. The thing is this will bring in jobs, but it will bring in huge dollars. I originally thought the committee would be a major part of adding cash to the building. Not sure if that is still possibility. But again Olympic games here goes beyond simple regional support.
Some old info about what the games got Vancouver: PricewaterhouseCoopers’ study estimated a total contribution to the BC economy of $2.5 billion of Gross Domestic Product, and as well created 45,000 jobs and contributed an additional $463 million to the tourism industry while venue construction by VANOC and 3rd parties added $1.22 billion to the economy.
Also, a great example from Vancouver...
is that all the snow events were held a Whistler, which is two hours north of Vancouver. As it stands, Sacramento is two from South Lake Tahoe up highway 50, but if the olympics were secured that highway would be expanded to make travel between the two locations faster. Kind of like what Salt Lake City did with I-80 between SLC and Park City before the 2002 Games.

It would cost a butt load to do that...sounds too expensive
I was in vancouver right before the olympics and the cab driver kept telling us the fortune they spent for a 2 mile underground train from the city to the olympic sites, so who knows?

I know they have been doing upgrades for the past year up there

Yea they spent like a billion on construction that is where the jobs come from
This is big money stuff no expense spared for this stuff

It would probably make more sense
To use the existing I-80 corridor and stage most of the olympic events on the North Shore.
Squaw has a little bit of olympic experience, if I remember correctly…
I was thinking the same thing
I always take 80 when I go to Tahoe (though I come from Chico, so I also take 99, 70, 20, and 89 to get to South Shore) but Sac has two routes to Tahoe. Events being held at, say, Heavenly could use 50 while those at Squaw could take 80. They no longer allow buses around Emerald Bay, so if there’s a bus of people they’d have to go all the way around the lake to get to the north shore if they came via 50.

Is McCarty plans to run for state office...
…he’s not going to want to be the guy who voted to kill the prospects of having the winter games return to NorCal. I pretty sure we may have just found a way to make the swing vote swing kids.

It does seem like it would be political suicide

This is BIG
The economic impact of the winter games would be outstanding for this community. Assuming the ESC gets done, I wonder what our chances of actually landing the games would be? I’m sure these events are prized by many cities throughout the world and our competition would be stiff. Regardless, to be considered for something like this would be awesome and gives hope for future large events such as the return of the ncaa tourney or a DNC/RNC to sacramento.

Right
I think the USOC would pick one place and run with it if they decide to make a bid at all. You would have to think it would be between Denver and Tahoe at that point
BRING BACK THE ARCO THUNDER....STOMP!
True, however I guess SLC's existing infrastructure would keep them in the mix for the US bid
Especially if the ESC doesn’t get done.

Let's try that again....
Here is a wikipedia article i found that lists some potential bidders.
BRING BACK THE ARCO THUNDER....STOMP!
I like that they've already thrown in Tahoe/Sacramento
I honestly don’t know if Tahoe will ever host the Olympics again (environmental stuff is big there, as it should be, and the Olympics are such a huge impact on the environment) but the option of having hockey and skating events in Sac would be amazing. I don’t know how much Reno has, in terms of appropriate facilities, but hell, they could all three host events. The Olympics are usually pretty spread out geographically, as I understand it.

Pipe dream
If they hold the Olympics in Tahoe the associated city will be Reno not Sac. Sacramento makes little sense with Reno being an hour an a half closer to where most of the events would be held.
As a Truckee resident most of us are hoping the Olympics in Tahoe does NOT happen.
It wouldn't be like "The Tahoe Olympics in Sacramento"
but they would definitely include the Sac ESC in their bid as a beautiful new arena within range (Olympics are always spread out over a fairly large area) to host some of the events.

The way I see it, there would be enough "newness" in the ESC long enough to be in play for Tahoe Winter Olympics and Bay Area Summer Olympics
I know SF was a semi-finalist for the US Bid for the Summer Games that ended up going to London (New York ended up with the US Bid… stupid). Now that they’ll have a huge new stadium in Santa Clara, a new arena in Sac would be very attractive for some events (probably preliminary stuff, assuming they’d build a new arena somewhere directly in the Bay Area as the real centerpiece of the whole deal). Plus, we already have world class venues for track (Sac State is top 3 in the country for that, though for the Olympics it would still likely be prelim stuff) and rowing (Lake Natoma one of the top in the country), world class cycling experience (there’s outdoor cycling in the Olympics, right?), even baseball prelims at Raley Field. How badass would it be to have the Summer and Winter Olympic Games both in Norcal within a couple decades? That would be a real “eff you” to the people who scoff at our pride in being halfway between Tahoe and the Bay.
