But I want to give thanks and congratulations to Mr. Tom Ziller and SacTown Royalty. Since I found the site almost four years ago, it has been the absolute epicenter of information regarding the Kings, and all things related to the team, from politics and the arena, to asinine trade speculation and Pookey losing his shit on draft day.
A lot of people deserve kudos for today's agreement, KJ, Commissioner Stern, and yes, even the Maloofs. Of course, there are so many more, Carmichael Dave putting a local (if radio) face on the movement, James Ham and everyone involved in Small Market, Big Heart. It's a wonderfully long list, and even if I could know all the names, I'm sure I could never peck them out into a FanPost.
I think over time, we've become aware of how respected Tom is within the sportswriting/blogging community, which certainly does the site credit, but also those of us who read it for accurate information and intelligent perspective. I have conversations with friends about the Kings, and whether it's free agency, land swaps, or city council votes, people always marvel at how I stay on top of the facts, especially when there is so much rumor and innuendo surrounding all of it. I tell them to take a look at SacTownRoyalty.com.
I would be remiss in not personally thanking Tom's excellent choices of editors in Aykis, section214, and Exhibit G, and even rbiegler, who is one of the funniest people on the intarwebs, and ought to come around more often. This is a smart and capable crew that isn't afraid to dig for accurate information, and never fails to present it in an interesting and entertaining fashion. The quality of the site reflects your vision, integrity, and passion for the purple.
Lastly, thank you to all of the commenters, even the ones I disagree with. When you assert something I think is wrong, I scour for info to prove you wrong. So, you make me better and more knowledgable! There are many of you who could very well have your own column or site, but I'm glad you choose to contribute here, because when I have too many sites bookmarked, it makes me feel dirty.
Congratulations to all of you! For me, it has been six long years (since Q&R) that I have been anxious about losing the team, and also about never bringing positive change to this great city that so many of us are lucky to call home. You wrote the letters, went to the games, got out in front of cameras, and stormed council meetings. You did it! I can't wait to see all of you at the first StR night in the rail yards!
