Let Them Hear It
Tonight the Sacramento Kings will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder before millions of viewers nationwide tuned in to TNT. Hopefully, you'll be among the 17,317 in the building. (Get tickets now if you don't have them. 1-888-91-KINGS or the box office or Kings.com.)
We will have the attention of the Sacramento City Council, of the NBA league office and of any potential future owners of or investors in the new facility or the basketball team. (AEG, Burkle ... they are paying attention.) More importantly, we will have the attention of the national media, who won't be able to avoid writing about the amazing fight and panache of the people of Sacramento and our elected leader, Kevin Johnson. The Maloofs tried to leave our city a year ago, and we didn't lay down. We stood up, and we fought. And we're still standing. And we're still fighting. And we won't stop until there are shovels in the ground.
All of those parties watching: let them hear it.
1. Wear black, wave your rally towel and cheer the hell out of the Sacramento Kings.
2. At tip-off, jump with the Goon Squad. The section behind the Kings bench always gets into it, but on such a special occasion, it'd be wonderful to get the whole building into it. (This comes at the request of Sign Lady. You don't want to dissapoint Sign Lady, do you?)
3. Lead and join into "Here We Stay" and "Sac-ra-men-to" chants during stoppages in play, coming out of timeouts and Thunder free throws. Print and pass out Here We Stay chant flyers. We've heard these chants come through television broadcasts in the past. That's on the local broadcasts. TNT loves to crank up the crowd noise. Let's do the work for them.
This is an incredible opportunity for us to be heard on a national stage with focused local attention. It's time to show the country what being a fan of the Sacramento Kings is all about. Let's do this.

Hope to see you all out there
If you can come early and help hand out chant fliers that would be great. We’ll be distributing them at the entrances so we’ll be easy to see. So stop off, come say hi, and if you want to stay and help out, that’d be great.
There’s also going to be a “Here We Tailgate” before the game. Information here: https://www.facebook.com/events/294992333894562/

That's so weird! Aren't they usually not allowed to travel personally like that on a game day?

I heard Jimmer at practice
35 and 31. I'm calling it now. Reke and Cousins 1-2 in most improved award both All-stars. Jimmer leads rookies in scoring, passing and Ole's. Make 2nd round of playoffs and Salmons is not here by seasons end.
Maybe he was in the men's restroom.

Ah! Reading this got me so excited!
I got my bf to take the day off so we could get there early enough to beat the traffic from SF. Totally plan on screaming my ass off and losing my voice. My mom requested that I don’t embarass myself with national tv cameras there, but I’m pretty sure that’s a lost cause.
Anyways, I’m planning on bringing a couple signs to try and get them on tv. I want to incorporate the arena with TNT somehow, but I’m having some writers block coming up with something good. Any ideas?

One of the signs I'm making is referencing the Sonics.
Does anyone think it’s in bad taste considering Clay Bennet will be there and on the relocation committee?
maybe...not sure
offensive?

I don't think so.
I’m making one that says: “What happened to the Sonics, won’t happen here! Here We Stay”
Sounds good to me

So wish I could be there tonight.
I’ve got no $$ and my kids on hand, but we’ll be blacked out at home watching (I’m blacked out at work right now). Really need the Kings to bring the effort tonight. No one will be angry if we lose because OKC is a damn good team, but we will be angry and disappointed if the Kings don’t at least give max effort. We fans are giving max effort in our support and I hope it resonates tonight on the floor and through the tube!
Let’s go, y’all!!
You really shouldn't be blacked out at work...
Or with kids. Have you considered AA meetings?

Sorry I can't be there, but will be rocking my blackout t-shirt at The Nuthouse in Palo Alto
[our block in Section 201 will be flush with Kings fans, however]
Also, we really should make the Goon Squad Jump an arena-wide staple before every game…gets folks blood pumping, and shows fan unity. Lots of arenas have similar pre-game/start-of-game rituals like this.
I’ve noticed the jumping starting to spread to a few adjacent sections, but we need to take it all the way around the building!

I have the great opportunity to be a part of Metro-EDGE, a young professionals organization here in town, and we just want all the STR readers to know that our 500+ person organization is behind the ESC plan. We will have over 100members in attendance this evening to support the team (section 212) and have set up some pre-game discussions with Kings VP’s and Sam Amick to keep our local young professionals informed and engaged with this issue.
Hopefully i will be able to see some other STR members there, and GO KINGS!

I’ve brought mine to some of the games and they don’t mind. There has been one dude who has been to a majority of the games this year that sits behind the basket near the Kings tunnel. According to Donte
Game is officially a sellout.
Currently satiating my hunger for Kings basketball with a renewed focus on the NINERS
I dont think they allow cowbells anymore so, sneak them in
I remember last year when i went to the here we stay game against OKC, i made a sign that read , "Anaheim, suck our (and i drew two basketballs)!. And a security guard took it from me in the 4th quarter :( good sign though. everyone seemed to love it.
Media attention and Correlation to Seattle
I have to admit I haven’t read every comment on Sactown Royalty the past couple weeks, but I wanted to point out something I haven’t seen mentioned much. The national media absolutely loves to make correlations from one city to the next—from one franchise to another.
How fortunate is it, then, that this nationally televised game—on the eve (not quite literally) of a city council vote for the privatization of parking structures that will fund the majority of a new arena and just days after the vote to make this a city council matter rather than kill the issue with a public vote—is against the last team to relocate from one city to another. The media has not turned its eye from the way Clay Bennett moved the SuperSonics to Oklahoma and now Sacramento has a chance to stand up and show they have the fan support to do what could not be done in Seattle—save our NBA franchise.
With loud and vocal support, the people of Sacramento helped to block the move to Anaheim last year—a planned move that was highly publicized. Now, a year later, the Kings are still here and the fans are still fighting to keep the team. How incredible would it be for the fans in the arena to be so loud, to express the fan support the Kings STILL have, to show that Sacramento is more than just a viable NBA city but that the Kings are LUCKY to have fans like these that the national media would be unable to write or talk about anything other than the night-and-day difference between this visiting Oklahoma City team and the home Sacramento team?
How fortunate are the Kings that this nationally televised game offers such a contrast between the team of “Here We Stayed” and the team of “Here We Went”?
I only wish I still lived in California that I could offer my voice in support. Rest assured, even up here in Vancouver, I will be lending my voice as I get to watch the Kings take on Zombie Sonics and the great fans of the Kings take on the forces which hope to take away our beloved team. Who knows, I may be loud enough to be heard all the way down there.
Good luck and add a couple decibels for me.

I like your contrast of HereWeStay to HereWeWent
It will be interesting to see if the national media picks up on that. As you indicate, the national media loves to make these comparisons so it is easy to think they will tonight. I just hope Sacramento fans come through in a big way, as we haven’t had quite as much build up leading to this game tonight as we did with the tumultuous build up of last season.
Asked if the Kings had any intention of trading Cousins, basketball president Geoff Petrie said, "No."
Twice is Too Many!
Good word from Vancouver! Ironically, I used to live in Vancouver, and was there when the Grizzlies were moved to Memphis. That was not a pleasant experience. Sacramento is now home and I DO NOT want to love another franchise in a home city!
On a related note, what’s up with C-Webb totally missing the point of the good news of the council vote the other day? Both Chris and TNT screwed that reporting up royally (no pun intended!).
Me too!

Won't be at the game, but I will be watching
Hell, I might be chanting along with you guys at home. I honestly feel kinda bad that I haven’t done much to help the effort, mostly because sometimes I don’t know what I could do, but that isn’t an excuse.
This game is our chance to show the world how dedicated we are to our team, to our city. This night is more than about basketball, it’s about an entire city coming together for a common cause. It’s unreal that it takes a basketball team to bring us together, but it just shows how important it is to us.
I hope our team comes out and feeds off of the energy given off by the crowd, because I’m sure the crowd will be cheering non-stop. As a fan, I am hoping for a win and I hope the Kings can pull through with the crowd willing them to victory. However, the outcome won’t matter as much as the statement the fans will have made by supporting this team through the dark unknown, doing whatever it takes to unify and prevail.
Go Kings! And Go Sacramento!!!

Im a longtime kings fan from illinois. Ive been a longtime reader of StR and have finally decided to join the club. I was always a big bulls fan but when MJ retired i found myself searchin for another team. Thats when i first took notice of the Sacramento Kings. The thing that attracted me to the kings was how the team played together. I soon fell in love with the style of play and players that made up that team of the early 2000s. The guys on that team quickly became like members of my family. My grandparents (who were the ones who cheered for the kings first)and i would gather around the tv every game night to watch our new team. As a child I have fond memories of watching kings games. I jumped up and down when Mike Bibby hit the game winner vs the lakers and I cried when Robert Horry hit that 3 in game 6. I have stuck with this team through the good times and bad and i plan on being a Kings fan for the rest of my life. I admire the fight and determination of all the great fans in Sacramento for fighting to keep this team, and i want to let yall know that this illinois boy is behind you 100%. Theres is no doubt Kings fans are the best fans in basketball and i am very proud to consider myself one.The Kings are now my team and heres hoping that they will always be the SACRAMENTO KINGS.

“About to head out to Sacramento to watch the Kings v. Thunder tonight. It’s televised on TNT so watch for us! I’ll have a sign!
It’s the only nationally televised game we have all season, and for us it’s more than just a game. Next week, the Sacramento city council will essentially vote on whether they will build the arena for the Kings or not. If the arena doesn’t get built, we’ll be the next Seattle, and my beloved Kings will no longer exist, just like the Super Sonics. This is our opportunity to show the nation that Sacramento deserves this team.
We quite possibly could get blown out this game, but that doesn’t matter. We’ll stand with our team and cheer, because this is OUR team. They’re not Anaheim’s, Seattle’s, Kansas City’s, or Lousiville’s. Wish us luck!"
