With the Clippers in town to tonight we'll get to see up close what we would have had we won the lottery.
Blake Griffin is everything you'd want in a franchise player. He has the talent and the character. You never hear anyone question his work ethic and he seems to be well respected by his teammates and coaches. For all that a player like Griffin gives you on the court he can impact an organization in many other positive ways.
With a talent like Griffin the Clippers have became an attractive destination for other players. The Clippers. Sure L.A. and the Staples center will always be attractive to other players. As long as the jersey was gold not red. Even with the recent success with the Brand, Mobley, and Cassell teams and Sterling's sudden willingness to open the checkbook they still were not an organization that players were demanding to be traded to. They are now though. All thanks to Griffin.
Had we won that lottery what's going on in L.A. could be going on here. Maybe we sign Butler and trade for Paul. Maybe we're the ones yelling "lob city, baby". Maybe.
I hope DeMarcus sees what someone like Griffin can do to transform a franchise. DeMarcus has the talent of a franchise player. He can become the type of player other guys want to come play with because he increases their chances of winning. It's all the other intangibles that Cousins need's to adopt for him to be the type of player that changes the culture of a team. I have absolutely no problem saying that the near future success of this franchise all depends on how DeMarcus develops or how he doesn't. He can look to Griffin to see how it's done.
