Coming off the heels of Joe Maloof telling Sam Amick that Smart would be back next year, the Kings today sent out a press release officially stating that they have picked up Smart's Team Option for the 2012-13 season.

Geoff Petrie explains in the Press Release:

"Keith has done a terrific job of taking control of the direction of the team," explained Petrie. "He is active, engaged and working hard to develop our young players along with a complimentary style of play."

The Kings promoted Smart to Head Coach when Paul Westphal was fired after a 2-5 start. The Kings have only gone 10-20 under Smart, but he has developed a rapport with the players, particularly DeMarcus Cousins, who has thrived under his tutelage.
