HERE WE STAYED: City Council Approves Arena Plan, Sacramento Kings Will Live On

Stay connected for news and updates

The Sacramento City Council has voted 7-2 to approve a funding plan to build a new entertainment and sports complex at the Railyards site downtown. Of all of the thousands of sentences I've written over the last six years on Sactown Royalty, that is by far my favorite, so please allow me to repeat it. The Sacramento City Council has voted 7-2 to approve a funding plan to build a new entertainment and sports complex at the Railyards site downtown.

The projected opener in the new building is right around November 1, 2015. I'm ready. Y'all ready?

A year ago, we were -- no joke -- pretty close to positive that we would lose our team. Years of political cowardice and disinterest, a weak will to find creative solutions to build a future here from the owners and little help from the community that supports the ideals that this project will allow to thrive in Sacramento ... all of those were beaten tonight. By us, by Kevin Johnson and John Shirey, by Joe and Gavin Maloof. Together, we all kicked what was perceived to Destiny in the teeth, and set a new course, one that ends with the Kings remaining in Sacramento for a long, long time.

Here We Stayed, y'all. Here We Motherfucking Stayed.
