As the Maloofs were presenting their case to the NBA of Governors in Manhattan on Thursday, I spoke with Grant Napear to get his reaction to the current arena crisis. Napear, the longtime voice of the Kings, calls the arena deal "bad" for the Maloofs. They are in New York to present their case to not have to pay the $3.25 Million in pre-development costs because they feel since they are only tenants this is not their responsibility. Mayor Kevin Johnson, who also surprisingly went to New York, feels that the deal made in Orlando is the deal the city of Sacramento is sticking with. I asked Grant on AM 1140 the Fan what the possibility is that the Kings won't be playing in Sacramento next season; he said "1 in a million chance" the Kings wont be playing in Sacramento during the 2012-2013 NBA season. He also feels that it "will be unlikely to have 16 members of the NBA Board of Governors feeling the deal is bad for the Maloofs." We should hope that will be the case and that the Maloofs can stick to the original deal.
