I'm pretty new to Fanposts, hope its the right place to put it or whatever. It started out as a comment but turned into more of an opinion piece (or something,) and felt the need to share. Feel free to read it after the jump and thanks for checking it out.
I'm done trying to figure out what may or may not happen with the Kings anymore. Its been proven time and time again that the Maloofs have no problems yanking the emotional strings of the people of Sacramento without fear of repercussions. Apparently they're smarter than we gave them credit for (or at least smart enough to hire good lawyers to guide them through this process while they still had the cash.)
I'm over worrying about who's building what and who's going to profit and where the money is coming from. Because I'm a basketball fan who lives in a basketball town with a basketball playing mayor. If we don't SCREAM basketball to you, Mr. Stern, you must be def sir. I've played ball with Kings before they were out of HS, I've played with Monarchs, radio personalities, local community leaders, family, friends and strangers. This is a basketball town and I've grown to love that about it. And whether the Maloofs continue their attempt to hold this city's emotions hostage or whether they get their green light to haul ass, that's not going to change. Any of it.
So while the team is in town, the people who do the work in the organization (players, coaches, FO, concessions folk, etc) will always get my respect and gratitude for providing high quality entertainment and representing our region in a national forum. I will continue to wear my jerseys proudly around town and I will go see as many games in person as I can and probably watch every other one on TV just like every year before since 1996. While the team is in town, I'll be thankful for what we've got.
But the day they're gone is the day I stop giving a shit about the NBA, the draft, or David Stern. It will be the last time I'll ever have to type the word Maloof. (What a stupid word to have to type. Just look at it.) And I'm relieved already. Because I know whether they move / sell / whatever, they've proven that they're the type of business people that step on their partners or clientele when the shit hits the fan or they need to make a buck. And that's just low down dirty. Fool me once, and all (or however many times its been. I've lost count.) Which is why I don't care enough to give them a shred of my attention anymore. It's not worth it to get my hopes up while these fools captain the ship. Especially when it feels like they brought the iceberg with them. On purpose. They'll never own a championship contender and they'll never amount to anything in the NBA. Every thing they do is a train wreck. And I've seen that movie before....
