"With the 5th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Harrison Barnes from the University of North Carolina."

And the fans don't rejoice. Because the fans have been following Sactown Royalty's open draft thread. And the fans now that, as David Stern will reveal just moments later, that "there has been a trade."

The Sacramento Kings, still looking to paper over that small forward hole, trade the No. 5 pick and Tyreke Evans out in a three-way trade with the Hornets and Bobcats. The Hornets get the No. 2 pick from Charlotte, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The Bobcats get Tyreke Evans and the No. 5 pick. The Kings get D.J. Augustin, Trevor Ariza and the No. 10 pick. At No. 10, the Hornets pick Tyler Zeller for the Kings. Since it's a sign-and-trade for Augustin (whose agent is on board) as a separate deal for Evans, the deal can't be announced until July 8.

The Kings small forward line-up is now Trevor Ariza, Travis Outlaw and Francisco Garcia.

The Kings now have four guards on the roster, with a max height of 6'4.

The Kings go into the season with a DeMarcus Cousins-Chuck Hayes-Tyler Zeller big man rotation.

The world is a dark, cruel place. Any hint of sunlight is destroyed.

Playing the trade game at this point is a scary prospect for any Kings fan. There are massive wins -- Thornton-Landry sticks out -- and massive losses (that Salmons thing). And hearing that Petrie is looking to add instant impact is even more frightening: it's desperate, and it mortgages the future. The idea that Petrie could do something similar haunts me.

I am haunted.

I am haunted.
