Well I started out wanting to make the case for what Barnes or MKG would look like on the team, but i just read that the Kings want to move Tyreke and the 5th pick to the Rockets for picks and Lowry......which i pray to GOD doesnt happen. Evans is too good and has too much potential......and the only reason i think the Kings would move him is because the *%&%@# owners cant afford to give him a competitive offer next year and people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. As for Reke, I think winning the ROY wasnt the best thing for him since it set incredible expectations on a kid who couldnt even buy beer at the time and had been given free reign by Westphal. Imagine coming to a new job with no expectations and doing really really well your first year, then the next year having one of the things that made you awesome(ability to get in the lane) hamper you(plantar facitistis(sp?), and then all this pressure was put on you when you got back, and THEN whoops!!!! your boss got fired and they replaced him with someone with a completely different management philosophy?? How many of us would be succesful in that situation. And what does Lowry bring that is going to take us to the next level?? are we a playoff team with him?? probably not....secondly, Isaiah Thomas should have earned at LEAST one season as the unquestioned starting PG on this team. Until we see his ceiling or he starts to regress, dont go shopping for PGs. But i digress.
It looks like the Kings are going to get either MKG or Barnes since the consensus is Robinson goes second, Beal third, and then the Kings get whoever the Cavs dont select from MKG or Barnes. At first i was a huge Drummond fan, but the disdain Kings fans have for this organization right now makes it way too risky to pick a player with so many question marks regardless of if he could be the next D Howard/ Amare. Personally I WANT MKG about as much as George Maloof wants a las vegas crack whore who will lie to him and tell him he is handsome. We need MKG and here is why.
With MKG you solidify your backcourt for the next few years. You have 3 players who are a prototypical PG in Thomas, SG in Thorton, and SF in Kidd Gilchrist. THEN you add in T Williams and Tyreke who can effectively play all THREE of those positions depending on matchups and you give Keith Smart a lot of options to throw at the opposition. You can go big (Williams, Evans, MKG), small (IT, Thorton, and Williams), defensive (IT, Evans, MKG), or offensive(IT, Thorton, Evans). And i ask the esteemed sactownroyalty readers to take the last sentence as completely speculative projections since we can all make arguments for "whats the best lineup in Situation (X)". Sorry Jimmer.
I do like Barnes alot and will not be even remotely upset if we get him....I just like MKG in that defensive SF role akin to Gerald Wallace running around causing problems for the opposition much better. And they say that MKG works his (blank)ing tail off too and is a leader....which is something this team needs. He is also a Calipari guy like Cousins and Evans. Now, the one thing Barnes brings is outside shooting which would be awesome, but becoming a better shooter is also learned and is caused by dedication and hardwork. Remember Ray Allen is the best 3 point shooter in league history because of his pregame routine and training schedule......AND because he works harder than anyone else.
This lineup will also answer the question "Is Keith Smart the long term answer for the Kings at the helm" since he gets a ton of talented pieces to work with and it will be up to him to get them to work together and show improvement. In fact, I would start putting pressure on this coaching staff since its their job to have players buy in to a system and work to make themselves better. I want to see a cooler Demarcus, Evans stop falling away when he gets an outside shot, and no "dont pass and go one-on-one" offensive scheme...........and MKG in Kings jersey.
Thanks for everyones time!
