I wrote an email to my company's Kings season ticket representative about cancelling our season tickets. We requested an explanation as to why we're cancelling and this is an excerpt of my response:
I was confirmed to tell you that we do not want to renew our season tickets. The reason would be, like I said on the phone, that our entertainment dollars are better spent elsewhere. The Kings aim to spend near the league minimum as their winning percentage indicates. The Maloofs’ promises to spend money on a better team have gone unfulfilled, and Geoff Petrie can only do so much with a hamstringed budget. Owners that rely on a basketball team for their personal income do a disservice to the team and the fans. Most importantly, the Maloofs walked away from a new arena deal that any other owner would have accepted in a heartbeat – thereby disappointing the fans, the city and even David Stern.
She responded with this email:
I personally sat down with the Maloof’s at a private lunch and asked them questions revolving around the arena deal, etc… What many people don’t know is that the arena deal would have raised ticket prices 40-60% and the team would have had to be sold out for every year across the loan, or would have faced losing roughly 22 million a year.
(She had no argument against how they stay at the league minimum and that the team is their only source of income.)
Being a Kings fan, I know the Mal**fs are full of poop.
Can somebody more knowledgeable than I please give me some facts that can call these guys out on their BS? I remember reading that through the money contributed by the NBA and AEG, the Mal**fs wouldn't have had to pony up any money or something crazy.
P.S. I know I have no reason except my bitterness to respond to her with anything but a "yes I'm sure we want to cancel", but I thought this would be more satisfying.
