This is my first post on str and I just want to introduce myself and tell all of you what being a Sacramento Kings fan means to me. I was born and raised here in Sacramento and with the Kings being the only team in town it was only natural to become a Kings fan. Growing up I knew the Kings were a horrible team, but it offered us the opportunity to see great players like Magic, Larry and Jordan come to Sacramento. When I was a teenager the Kings came to prominence with Cwebb, Vlade and the rest of the crew. Watching the Kings become a great team was bizarre to me. The Kings were suddenly contending for championships and I always had the expectation of them finishing at the bottom. Going to the playoffs for seven straight years spoiled us and it has been hard to watch at times during the last six years as they have struggled. I have once again reached that point where I don’t expect the Kings to be good, and I don’t really expect that they will ever become a great team again. At the end of the day, I am just happy the city of Sacramento has a team they can call our own. Whenever I tell someone I am from Sacramento, the first thing they mention is the Kings. Today, being a Kings fan for me is just being happy we have a team. I watch every single game, read str religiously, and am generally obsessed with the Kings and anything Kings related. When the owners known as the Maloofs sought to move the team to Anaheim it ripped a giant hole in my heart thinking that my favorite professional sports team could be moving away. As you all know, it’s a feeling of emptiness, hatred, and horror that something that so many people love and care about can be taken away from you. This next year and however many years that the Kings are still playing in Sacramento, I am going to enjoy every game and realize how lucky we are to have a basketball team in our city. Its much more than city pride, it’s a way of life for me.
