With Dwight trying to force his way to the Nets, there was rumor this morning that Hedo may have to be included to make a deal work for Orlando. If that deal happened, the Nets new roster would look like this:
Deron: 17 million
JJ: 20 Million
Gerald Wallace: 10 million
Hedo: 11 Million
Dwight: 19 Million
Total for five players: 77 Million (already over the luxury tax without filling out the roster)
With that in mind, I would like to see the Kings try and get in on this trade by sending Salmons to the nets in exchange for Hedo. Salmons could back up JJ or Gerald on the nets, and he would be getting paid 3-4 million less than Hedo in the first 2 years, saving them 3 million this year (luxury tax still 1 for 1), and 4-8 million next season (new luxury tax levels). that savings would total more than the Nets would owe on his 3rd year with them, and by then he'd be an expiring and may be easier to trade anyway.
For us, it would give us a SF that is currently better at the position than any of the SGs posing as a SFs on our roster (even with his defensive deficiencies), and his contract would expire 1 year earlier. I also think his shooting and passing would make an immediate impact. It would definitely be better than paying Ryan Anderson at 8 million (+/-) per year to attempt to play small forward for us, and it would give us another year or two to continue our search for a long term starter.
I'm not really sure how much Hedo has left in the tank at this point... but he's gotta be more productive than Salmons/Garcia, right?
