In following our team over the last few years, as well as nba in general for a long time; I am going to make a case for a future championship backcourt. Wow, what an opening sentence. I have been watching my kings for a while now. Trying to figure out what the heck GP was trying to build has been hard for me. I am not sure he intended to assemble a potential playoff team at this time. But, he has stumbled onto one.
Unfortunately, the parts are kind of mixed up. We have a stud Big in Cuz'. A stud LEAD guard in Reke'. A deft scoring 2nd guard in Jimmer. A lock down defender at the small forward. A young animal who will take the starting job from a very stable JT by Christmas.
A chance at an amazing bench. A bench that could score with any other bench in the league.
Your talking about being ten deep. Brooks, Thornton, Outlaw,IT,JT and a little Salmons/Garcia.
If you look at the best teams in the league, they assign roles to their players. They don't just put their best five on the court to start the game.
Let's take OKC. Since that would be our most likely team to model ourselves after.
They start Sefalosha and Kendrick Perkins. Mainly for defensive reasons and in Sefalosha's case he can also hit the open shot.
If you look at the line up that I am proposing, we have specific roles for the entire team.
JJ and Reke' are very good defenders. Jimmer is out there to keep the defense honest. Also to be our third scoring option for the starters. Cuz' is there to be our first option at the mid post while emphasizing player movement. T-Rob or JT is there to defend, rebound and be active.
Jimmer would be the first to be subbed (Unless e is going off). There is Thornton.
JJ next. Roll Reke' down to the three. Here is IT or AB.
Our guard are not the problem here. We have crazy flexibility here. Whomever is going good stays in and that iss the way it is.
The starters would have to run a lot of pick and roll with Reke' and Cuz'. Jimmer spotting up. JJ and JT Hustling.
I am interested in your opinions. I have thought this for a while. It allows all players to play to their strengths... Well the main ones anyways.
I know the Jimmere and Reke' doubters won't like it regardless, but let me know.
