Shortly after Jason Jones of The Bee reported on Sunday that the Sacramento Kings were nearing a deal with restricted free agent Jason Thompson, the reporter confirmed that an agreement had been reached. There's no official word on a dollar amount, but in a blog post on The Bee's site Jones again mentions the $6 million starting salary. It's unclear how long the deal will last. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, teams can sign their own free agents for up to five years.
Jones notes that the Kings have about $6 million left under the cap. Sacramento actually also has the room exception (good for up to a one-year, $2.5 million contract or two-year, $5 million deal). Chances the Kings spend enough to need to look at salary cap exceptions are slim.
There could be additional moves, though nothing beyond a new small deal for Terrence Williams is being discussed publicly.
