I just recently moved back to Sacramento after a five year stay in New York. For the last half-decade, Sactown Royalty has been by far my best source for Kings coverage- but the Sacramento Bee was second. I would check sacbee.com for analysis (as poor as it sometimes was) after I had exhausted all the articles on StR. It's always nice to have a hometown perspective.
This morning, I opened to page C1 of the sports section, and found myself betrayed.
The headline at the bottom of the sports section was this:
Lakers Show Why They're Model Team
A Kings fan should never have to read those words from his own hometown paper- it's bad enough that it's coming at us already from all directions. My Facebook feed alone is littered with gloats from bandwagon Lakers fans and people asking rhetorically whether Mitch Kupchak is the best GM in sports, not to mention Twitter or the national sports media.
I should never have to read those words from a Sacramento paper.
It got worse.
"It is about why they are the best professional franchise in the modern sports era."
Why is this appearing in a newspaper in my city?
I may never recover from 2002- most of us probably never will. The Bee, at least theoretically, is supposed to represent Sacramento. If I want to hear glowing praise of the Lakers, I can read the LA Times- or ESPN, or SI, or check my twitter feed. I don't need that from my source of Kings news.
As of this evening, I cancelled my Bee subscription, and took Sacbee.com/Kings off of my bookmarks.
Thanks, StR, for being a true bastion of Kings fandom.
