Final Score: 124-118, DeMarcus Cousins leads Sacramento to victory

USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings put together a good offensive game to defeat the Cavaliers. Neither side played much defense, but the Kings did enough down the stretch to come out on top.

The Sacramento Kings hit 29 of 33 free throws, including key free throws down the stretch by DeMarcus Cousins and John Salmons, to hold on for a home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Neither team has excelled at defense this season, and tonight was no exception. However, the Kings did manage a few big defensive plays late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 26 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals. With Anderson Varejao missing the game due to injury, the Cavaliers simply had no answer for DMC. Tyreke Evans returned to the starting line-up and played well, finishing with 18 points and four rebounds. He also played lockdown defense on a key late play against Dion Waiters, who had torched the Kings all night and finished with 33 points.

Stray Observations:

  • Thomas Robinson had a great game. He was hustling all over the court, scrapping for rebounds and loose balls, and really looked like the player we hoped for when we drafted Robinson. After the game Robinson talked with Grant and Jerry, and mentioned that he's becoming comfortable with his role as a hustle guy and that his points will come. If he can continue to play like this, he'd be a tremendous boost the Kings depth. Robinson finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.
  • DeMarcus Cousins went 12 for 12 from the free throw line. Having a big man who can hit free throws is a great luxury.
  • Marcus Thornton outran Waiters on a fast break layup. Ankle seems to be healed.
  • Aaron Brooks missed the last game with the flu. He was available tonight, but did not play. Isaiah Thomas saw 31 minutes despite struggling from the field most of the evening. Jimmer Fredette received 14, including some key 4th quarter minutes.
  • Kyrie Irving had a really rough night, finishing with just 15 points on 19 shots.
The win places the Kings at 14-24 for the year. The Kings have a chance to get two in a row as they host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
