Nets 113, Kings 93: Sacramento ends road trip with a blowout loss

The Kings put on a rebounding clinic. - Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

DeMarcus Cousins was again fantastic, but too few of his teammates chipped in and Brooklyn won running away.

DeMarcus Cousins capped an amazing road trip with a 28-point, 11-rebound performance, but he couldn't save the Sacramento Kings from dropping their Saturday game against the Brooklyn Nets 113-93. The Kings finished the four-games-in-five-nights road trip 2-2.

The Kings' defense was awful as the Nets had 65 points by halftime and shot an effective field goal percentage of .559. On the other side, the Kings shot an eFG of just .433. The Kings protected the ball well (nine turnovers), but gave up way, way too many Nets offensive rebounds. Brooklyn captured 21 of 40 offensive rebounding opportunities. That means that effectively the Nets had second chances on half of their misses. And they shot better than 50 percent, so ... not good. For what it's worth, the Kings rebounded well on the offensive glass as well. But we know they can do that. They have to get better on the defensive glass. Jason Thompson had zero defensive rebounds in 26 minutes. Not good.

Francisco Garcia, Chuck Hayes, Travis Outlaw, Tyler Honeycutt and Jimmer Fredette shot a combined 0-19 for 0 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, a turnover and five fouls in a combined 62 minutes. I mean, holy hell, that's baaaaaad.

The Kings are back at it at home against the Grizzlies on Monday. Tyreke Evans is expected back.
