"As I write this, my hands are shaking." Aykis16 on 1/9/13

We all remember the day we learned that Daina Falk's seemingly silly tweet was actually based on fact and that, yes, the Kings had actually been sold to a group in Seattle. I felt terrified, angry, confused and sick to my stomach.

Well, friends, that was nothing compared to this.

As I write this, my hands are shaking: I am growing a mustache. On my face.

Why? FOR THE CHILDREN! What does this have to do with you? Read on!

This month I will cultivate what is sure to be a disturbing example of facial hair gone wrong as a fundraising stunt for public schools in Sacramento and San Francisco. I was shamed/challenged by an (awesome) elementary school Principal who demanded I consider it. When I balked, my youngest daughter heard my excuses and said these words: "Dad, don't you tell us 'who cares what people think?'"

Oh yeah. Damn. Yet I still resisted.

Last Friday, after what proved to be one IPA too many, I became sentimental while looking at Sign Lady's love page…and I thought, hell, why not? What does it matter?

Well, now I am paying the price.

Some people are born to rock a 'stache. I am not one of those people. My facial hair is weak… think Johnny Depp or Bob Dylan. It is with deep regret that I look upon myself each morning, questioning my own self-worth, doubting my existence. But alas, it is too late to go back.

Now I turn to you, the community that I can say (without joking) that I really have deep admiration for, to consider sliding a few of your hard earned dollars to schools in need. The link below will take you to my donation page and there you can find a project to help fund. I have selected schools in SF and Sacramento… and even one in Placerville (wut wut!) that all have a population of high poverty students. These schools don't have a whole lot of fancy auctions to fill their coffers. These schools need help. Plus, I can't bare to think that I endured this mustache for no reason.

To sweeten the pot, I will award the highest STR contributor to this fundraising campaign with a signed Shareef Abdur-Raheem Kings jersey! NOT KIDDING. So I know that STR sent you, please write "Let's do this Sacramento" or something!

As a bonus, I offer these icons of Basketball who have shown that a mustache can be a thing of beauty.
