Ray McCallum sizzles in D-League debut

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Sacramento's other rookie is off to a great start for the Reno Bighorns.

Sacramento Kings rookie PG Ray McCallum was officially assigned to the D-League's Reno Bighorns on Thursday, just in time for the start of Reno's season opener against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.  The Skyforce ended up winning 86-85, led by Quincy Douby's 29 points.

(Yes, that Quincy Douby)

McCallum was the star for the Bighorns in their loss however, scoring 28 points on 12-19 shooting, including 3-4 from long range.  McCallum added 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in almost 41 minutes of action.  It's an auspicious start for the Kings rookie, who had yet to practice with the Bighorns.

Kings training camp cut Trent Lockett was second on the Bighorns in scoring with 14 points, and added 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.

If you would like to watch a replay of Ray's game in Sioux Fall, it's available for free on Youtube.  I've embedded the clip below.  You can see a particularly good stretch of McCallum play at  the 1:48:48 mark to the 1:52:00 mark.  He also has a fun transition dunk at the 2:02:15 mark.

The Bighorns play the Skyforce in a rematch tomorrow at 5.  All Bighorns games will be streamed live for free on Youtube.
