So i'm fairly certain everyone knows where this post is going. I won't even point out the stats from the game today against the Clippers as that just wouldn't be fair. But the same trend continues:
1.) Greivis can't stay in front of his man (CP3) and the Clips offense starts to flow and we have a terrible 1st quarter which ultimately lost us the game having to play from behind for the duration of the game, and like and Grant and Jerry say you have to play perfect to come from behind and win. Although we took the lead, we didn't play perfect and it cost us
2.) Isaiah Thomas has to come in and get us back into the game, which he has done on a regular basis this year so far.
3.) Luc Mbah a Moute did a marvelous job defending CP3 and this was a great move by coach Malone and it obviously disrupted the Clips offense. We were able to get away with that because the Clips went with a 3 guard lineup of Paul, Redick and Crawford, none of which Vasquez can guard.
4.) Coach Malone obviously doesn't have the confidence in Greivis to play him extended minutes especially against the likes of a CP3, but this isn't the first time we've seen Vasquez benched in favor of IT. Of the 11 or 12 games this season, Vasquez has had 2 good games. Not going to get it done
So, i ask, when will the Vasquez fans just admit that he's not the starting PG we needed? Let's be honest, there aren't many guys who can stay in front of Chris Paul on a regular which is what makes him so great. But for Greivis, his defense is atrocious and it's not like he's Pistol Pete Marovich in terms of setting up his teammates making up for the points he is giving up. The fact of the matter is that his playmaking ability if grossly overestimated. He is a good passer and makes the easy pass often, but he isn't the dynamic playmaker that everyone was trying to make him seem like when we traded for him. The ankle injury is complete BS in that he's had plenty of time to recuperate and get in sync with the team. I understand that he doesn't have the best cast to pass to but he's had plenty of time to get acclimated to the team so everyone can throw that excuse out the window.
It's clear that we need another PG; Isaiah in my mind is a keeper and if he's not already engraved in Pete D's as a keeper, he will be by the time the season is over. We, or should i say the GV fans, would be blind and naive to not see the obvious and that is that Vasquez isn't all you thought he is/was. As someone brilliantly pointed out in another comment somewhere on here, the Pelicans wouldn't be so quick to make a move for Jrue Holiday if they were happy with Vasquez, and if he was dishing out nearly 10 apg, you know there is a problem.
Vasquez is sort of like a linebacker in football that can only play in certain situations; you take him out on obvious running downs because all he can do is pass rush. This applies to guarding the opposing teams PG. He can't play extended minutes against the extra quick PGs. And in today's game, nearly all starting PGs are blazing quick. So please, someone, anyone make an excuse or 'reason' for what GV;s issue is. The more i think about it, the more i could see him moved come Dec. 15 or some time soon thereafter.
In the here and now, IT needs to start. Maybe GV coming off the bench will make it easier on him defensively going against lesser talent. He does have a competitive edge that could possibly spark the bench even more and he could be used to get PPat going, Outlaw etc. Thought?
