I realize i probably could and maybe should have put this in the Asinine Trade Thread but i really don't think it's all that asinine. Anyway, with the recent emergence of Avery Bradley at the point in Boston, and the Celtics seemingly looking to build through the draft, does Rajon Rondo become expendable?
He is set to hit free agency in 2015 which would make him an expiring deal next season. His name has floated around in trade rumors and we probably would've heard even more trade banter if not for his ACL injury. What i am thinking though is perhaps a move to give up expiring contracts for his expiring (in 2015) with the addition of some second rounders.
Maybe: Kings get Rajon Rondo Celtics get Marcus Thornton, Chuck Hayes, Greivis Vasquez, future 2nd round pick Maybe not exactly this, but some combination of our expiring deals with their expiring. Maybe some more of this year's expiring deals so they can attempt to make a run at some of the 2014 free agents. I think it's clear that our new management is looking for a playmaking point guard (something they might have thought GV was but were obviously wrong about).
Why not make a trade that benefits Boston in terms of long term salary, and then up until 2015 throw 'the kitchen sink' at Rondo moving forward? He's making something like 11 million i believe, and i think a 12-13 million per season contract could reel him in. Then we lock up Isaiah for something near the mid level exception and maintain our dynamite 6th man and look to add a defensive big in the coming seasons.
How attainable do you think Rajon Rondo is?
