Kevin Johnson meetings called 'productive' and 'positive'

Kevin Johnson met with multiple unnamed NBA executives on Friday. Talks are called positive. We know little else.

Kevin Johnson is in Houston. On Friday, he met with people involved in the NBA decision-making process. We don't know who. We don't know for how long. We don't know for exactly what purpose, though obviously making the case to save the Sacramento Kings is the overall mission. But hey, according to an anonymous source who talked to The Bee's Dale Kasler and is almost assuredly one of KJ's aides or advisors, things went splendid!

Johnson spent hours in a series of closed-door meetings with key NBA officials, hoping his visit to Houston would help lay the groundwork to block the Maloof family's proposed sale of the Kings to a group that would move them to Seattle next season.

The mayor wasn't available for comment late Friday. A source close to the situation characterized the talks as "positive and productive."

That's good. But it means nothing. NBA owners are apparently under a gag order -- Mark Cuban specifically mentioned to Kasler a threat of fine -- so nothing came from that, either. So there you have it.
