I'm going to put as much effort into this recap as the Kings did.
There, recap done. No, for real though, the Kings absolutely got demolished in this game. After starting out on an 18 to 6 run fueled by the good interior play of DeMarcus Cousins, New York went on a 46 to 7 run. Yes, you read that right.
FORTY SIX TO SEVEN!
They weren't done sucking just yet. The Kings were outscored 31 to 11 in the second quarter, not a surprise considering the Kings are the worst 2nd quarter team in the league. But even though they scored more points in the 3rd quarter, it was arguably even worse as they allowed New York to score 41 of their own.
By the 4th quarter, the Kings got down by as many as 50 points.
Even Kurt Thomas, who is 40 years old, joined in on the fun, scoring 11 points in the 4th including a three pointer. It was the 9th three of his 18 year career.
The Knicks bench, led by J.R. Smith (25 points, 7 threes) and Amar'e Stoudemire (21 points on 10-10 shooting) would have beat the Kings entire team 82-81.
DeMarcus Cousins did score 25 points on 10-14 shooting but had absolutely no help. Tyreke Evans was just 3-10 and Isaiah Thomas 3-13 as both missed layup after layup. John Salmons and Francisco Garcia (who started for Jason Thompson for matchup reasons) were a combined 1-8. Jimmer Fredette and Thomas Robinson finished in double digits off the bench for the Kings, most of those coming in garbage time, garbage time being the final three quarters of the game.
If the NBA ever questions our devotion to this team, we should send in a tape of this game. This is the team we're fighting like crazy to keep here.
