Kings fall to Hawks 122 to 108 as good offense isn't enough to overcome bad defense

The Kings dropped their fourth straight and the first of this five game road trip. Isaiah Thomas finished with 30 points and a season-high 9 assists in the loss.

The Sacramento Kings dropped to 19-37 on the year and just 5-24 on the road after a loss in Atlanta last night. The fact that the game was actually one of Sacramento's better performances on the road and still ended as a double digit loss does not bode well for the rest of this five game road trip.

Sacramento got off to a hot start, making 10 of their first 14 baskets and jumping out to as much as a 13 point lead. Isaiah Thomas and DeMarcus Cousins were both on fire early and ended up carrying their team offensively for much of the game. Thomas finished with 30 points on 9-18 shooting and a season-high 9 assists. Coming into tonight, Isaiah had a pretty long Free Throw streak going, but a miss tonight ended that streak at 48. DeMarcus Cousins also had a good offensive night, scoring 26 points on 11-22 shooting to go with 13 rebounds. Tyreke Evans was the only other King to finish in double-digits with 15 points.

Defensively is where the Kings continued to falter. Atlanta ended up shooting 53.3% from the field (compared to 43.2% for Sacramento). Every Atlanta starter aside from Zaza Pachulia scored at least 17 points. Al Horford led the Hawks with 24 points on a ridiculously efficient 11-14 from the field. Josh Smith added 18 points on 8-12 shooting. Even DeShawn Stevenson got in on the efficiency, scoring his 17 points on 5-6 from three.

The Hawks bench also outclassed Sacramento's, almost doubling the scoring output (39 to 20). The Kings bench has been a problem all season, and hopefully the addition of Patrick Patterson will help strengthen that. Patterson, Aldrich and Douglas, who were traded to the Kings on Wednesday from the Houston Rockets, will join the team today in New Orleans in order to be ready for the game against the Hornets on Sunday.

In other news, Here We Stay had some great representation at Philips Arena. A big thank you to our own Kevin Fippin for helping to organize the effort. This will not be the last time Here We Stay will make an appearance on the road so stay tuned.
