The Sacramento City Council discussed progress on developing a pitch to keep the Kings in town at its Tuesday meeting.

The Sacramento City Council discussed the push to keep the Kings in town on Tuesday, with Allen Warren stepping up to lead arena talks. Warren, just elected in November, has been seen as a no-doubt 'yes' vote, but it's good all the same to hear that he's on board.

From Cowbell Kingdom:

Councilman Allen Warren is running point on an ad hoc committee addressing the Kings/arena issue. Warren's comments at last night's meeting included an update on the list of local investors who've pledged money in the city's bid to keep the Kings.

"I know when the mayor initially started this push that we asked for 10 Sacramentans to step forward to pledge a million dollar investment a piece," Warren said. "And so just for the record to date...I believe the number has gone up to 25 people now (who) have stepped up to pledge a million dollars to invest to help keep our team here in Sacramento..."

The city has given itself a March 1 deadline to have a pitch ready. But that pitch won't officially be made to the NBA Board of Governors until April 18-19. Mayor Kevin Johnson has recently said he'll attend All-Star Weekend in Houston on Feb. 15-17 in order to lobby NBA owners on Sacramento.

Crown Downtown had a wonderful turn-out at City Hall before and during the meeting. Huge props to the group for consistently showing up in front of the Council to remind them and city staff how committed fans are to keeping pro sports in Sacramento.
